Okay, I originally said this new 7 for 4 "free nights" offer was not a good deal for Annual Passholders. I just did the math and if you are staying 7 nights at a Moderate or Deluxe resort, it actually is a good deal.

As several people here on the boards discovered, the "Free Nights" Package Offer can be booked with 1-Day Base Tickets. You will not get extra days on the tickets if you do this, but you'll get the free nights.

Here's an example of how an Annual Passholder might do better with the "Free Nights" package:

* 1/5/09-1/12/09, 2 adults, Wilderness Lodge Courtyard View, 7 for 4 "free nights" package with 1-Day Base Ticket and $200 gift card, $1,579.56

* 1/5/09-1/12/09, 2 adults, Wilderness Lodge Courtyard View, 7-night Annual Passholder room only rate, $1488.00

So in this example, with the package you are paying $91.56 more, but you are getting a $200 Disney Gift Card and a 1-Day Base Ticket per person that you can use later (valued at $79.88 per adult).

I also tried this with a Moderate resort, Standard room, same dates, 7-night stay and it worked out similarly.

Dining can be added to either package and will cost the same either way, so it doesn't affect these results.

Personally I'm seriously thinking of taking advantage of this for a January trip!

Thanks Mary!

As an aside, any sense on whether Disney will offer its standard room-only discount rate code for 2009 in the somewhat near future?

For those of us who cannot stay longer than 4 or 5 nights due to family/work obligations, you save more money buying one AP and applying the 40% room rate code than you do with the current package deal, even with the $200 gift card.

Thanks again.

There's just no way to do the math to make this a good deal for us. We already have tickets (not AP's), and we can't stay past Jan 9th (which is a max of 5 nights from the deal start-date).

I second the "do you think there'll be a general room-only code" question! That's my only hope, now. I was SO hoping for a free dining offer.

The AP room-only and package rates are out for Jan-Feb. Beyond that, no idea, sorry.

Yep. The package is only a good deal for APs who stay 7 nights. (Maybe 6 at a Deluxe -- I haven't done the math on that.)

Thanks Mary for trying to make us long time passholders feel like we could get a deal. Sorry, I'll pass. I would've saved my DVC points and booked the promotion, but decided not to. Maybe they'll offer us passholders a better promotion than just room, like the shopping discount or reduced dining! Glad to see lots of folks taking advantage of this deal. I will pass this info on to my co-workers and friends because it is a good deal for them.

I can't get it to be a good deal for us.
AP holders.... for 6/18 0 6/24 (or whatever 7 nights is)
Came out to 1500 and some w teh CP dining (unless I am an idiot and clueless) I didn't try the 1 day ticket route...

I am paying LESS than that for my Xmas rate during HIGH SEASON w DDP.

Hmmmm. We looked at it and even buying 1 day tickets we could save between $1300-$1800. We would have to change our resort though.

Tried to book the contemporary with this deal. It isn't included in the deal. The Poly is.

My family is first time AP holders. My wonder was what the past AP discount has been in end of May/begnning of June...

I know there was one available b/c Mary's site shows it but I would love to know what the rates were for the value/mod/deluxe resorts during that time.

We want to go back either Memorial Day week or the next week (1st week of June) and I need that info just to get a "ballpark" idea of the difference.

I will book a 4/3 pckg and can change it later but my curiousity is killing me!

Mary, do you remember the rates for last May/June's AP discount? TIA!

One more thing- I have already purchased 1 day base tixs for this coming Sept. Free Dining. If I purchase more 1 day tix for this promo can I use both sets of 1 days tixs towards my next AP???

Unfortunately you can only use one of those one day MYW tickets to upgrade each Annual Pass (I have quite a few of them that I've had to buy in order to get the DDP over the last few years:rolleyes1 ). They've only ever let me trade one in at a time. I went ahead and booked the 4/3 offer at POP, but will cancel it if a better AP offer comes out. I believe last year the AP discounts were offered around February, if I'm not mistaken.

Don't you have to buy a 4 day ticket, or can it just be a 1 day?

When I tried to book over the phone the CM insisted this offer required length of stay tickets, but if you go online you only have to buy one day tickets. You must go through the special offer section to get the room discount though.

I crunched the numbers and this is a better deal if you can travel while the gift card is offered. Change the ticket to a one day ($79.88) which can be applied at a later date to your AP or renewal. For Feb 1-8 (7 nights) the room is $2 a night cheaper than the current AP rate of $49 a night (value resort). So while you only save $2 a night ($14), you do get the $200 gift card which is a plus. Other than that the savings would be being able to book beyond the current AP offering through high season and into June.

I booked it since I can use the 1 day tickets toward our APs. If the AP deal ends up being better we will switch to that instead.

Ok I was told that I had to purchase tickets for the two of us for the 4 nights that we pay for and get three day tickets for free.

Is that not correct??

you are like us and really like the 10 day non expiration tickets. I bought 4 (3A, 1C) 10 day non expiration with water parks and it was like getting 4 tix for the price of 3. Factoring in the $200 GC I saved $428.00 over the Mousesavers ticketmania discount price!
