7 days to go & now STREP!

My doctor said most adults, do not get strep.
However, I have had it so that blows his theory.

Don't worry. My 5 year old came down with Strep just before our trip too..and she also was on antibiotics while in Disney. FYI.. your doctor can give you the antibiotic for Strep in a pill form (chewable). This is what we did (even though we had a fridge in our room).

According to the Medical Letter, a penicillin is the drug of choice for strep throat. Please be sure she takes the antibiotic for the full course the doc prescribes, in order to completely irradicate the strep. As for getting an antibiotic before you go...if you get one, take it only if you need it. Do not take it prophylactically to prevent yourself from getting sick. (Antibiotic resistance is becoming a real problem from people over medicating and taking antibiotics when they are not needed.)

In the summer of 2002 ALL 3 of my kids got strep while AT Disney!! My doctor called in antibiotics and it was delivered to our campsite for us. They felt better almost immediately after getting that antibiotic in them.

I was in the hospital with strep a few years ago! Then the doctor said my son (who was 6 months at the time) wouldn't get it because he was under two!
Wrong - the whole family got it!

She does seem to be doing better today after 1 1/2 days on antibiotics. Cough is worse but I think that is because it is breaking up. Just wanted to say thank you for all of your kind wishes. Oh, and our doc did give me a script just in case. Never thought he would but glad I asked. Now I really have to start packing. Suitcases and msc stuff in my living room but thats about it. Time to get my butt in gear!

I've had strep for a week now and I'm feeling much better. They gave me Levaquin for an AB. Rough week, everyone in SoFlo appears to be sick or getting sick.

At any rate, your daughter will be fine for travel in 7 days. If she was in good condition prior to the illness she will be fine for the parks. If not, go slow and let her set the pace.

You might ask that the Doctor provide you with a secondary AB in the event she relapses on the vacation.

Sadly, I must inform you that a week later my wife's throat is sore. Perhaps you should fill your script before you go as well.

So glad she is feeling better! Maybe she could be the "supervisor" while you pack suitcases in her room! That way she could be involved from her bed

12 years is a long time to wait for your miracle blessings on your sweet family!

Thank you soo much famforjc. I have actually just started packing. Just got back from Walmart for last minute items and spend $97 (yikes) But I look at it like its not like I wouldn't have bought these summer items anyway. Just buying them a little early.
She actually is doing much better today except that since yesterday, she has been complaing that her right knee hurts when she put pressure on it. Hope something else isnt going on with her now too

We've been there and done that too. My children were getting strep a little frequently when they were younger (around 4 to 6) but they never came down with it real bad. I guess b/k I would take them to the Dr. immediately after they said they had a sore throat.
But, my son got it right before our trip when he was 5.
Doc told us the good thing with strep is that it can actually be treated and in a couple of days the kids usually feel almost new.
You will manage with the liquid; keeping it cold, etc. b/k you know it's best for your child. We did. And BTW...we had one of the most wonderful trips!!! So, relax and have a great time!!!!
