I know it's early, but anyone else doing the 7 day Western cruise leaving May 7 - 14th???

we are booked on the May 7th 2005 cruise. My husband and I and our 8 year old daughter. My husband will be having a hip replacement next month so we are crossing our finger that we dont have to delay. We really wanted last week in may or first week in june but was not able to get when we rebooked last year. Now with Disney holding these Cruises back I am sure the price will go way up. So we just wait and see.

dencord7 - How cool is that!!! We're in Denver too! It'll be me, DH, and two DD's 12 & 10. We wanted the end of May or beginning of June too, but doesn't look like they do the 7 day cruises during that time, or at least not for 2005.

I hope your DH surgery goes well and you guys will be able to make the trip.

Anyone?

I know it's early, but I'm obsessing :Pinkbounc

Hi Tera,
I just booked for May 7th and absolutely can't wait. This is our first Disney Cruise. My husband, myself, and our three boys ages 12, 10 and 7 will be going. We are counting down the days........

Hi SPM....

Congratulations on booking your cruise and welcome to the DIS board. You are going to love it here. Any questions you have, you'll find the answer on this board. This is also our first cruise and we will be traveling with our two daughters that will be 12 and 10 also. Do you know your cabin assignment yet? We'll be in cabin 2108. I've become obsessed with finding out every bit of information before we leave.

It'll be great talking with other people that will be on the same cruise.

Tera,
We will be in rooms 2575 and 2577- right down the hall from you! I, too, am obsessed with getting all the info that I can- this message board has been very helpful. Will your girls be missing a week of school too?

SPM - That's so cool that you guys will be that close. Maybe our kids will meet up in the clubs. I'm happy that they'll be together in the same club, so if anything happens, they'll be together.

Yes, my kids will be missing the week of school, but the sacrifices we make for our kids ;) They get out the end of May anyways, so it's not like it's in the middle of the school year.

Pretty soon we'll be doing our 1 year dance :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Teresa,
Did you book through an agency or directly with Disney? It took me about two solid days of researching to find the best deal. I ultimately booked through cruisingco.com. It's so cool to chat with a future fellow cruiser! I've driven my poor hubby nuts talking about it! We've only got a little over a year to go........... do you think we can make it that long?????

Shelley

Shelley - We were going to book through DCL, thinking that would be the best deal, but then I saw posts here about other TA and we booked through Dreams Unlimited (sponser for this board) and saved $300.

My hubby laughs at me everytime I tell him something new that I've learned. I just hope this year goes by FAST!:hyper: Have you guys got your DCL DVD/Video? My kids weren't too excited until they saw that and now they want to do EVERYTHING on the boat :teeth:

Where will you guys be traveling from? We'll be flying out from Denver into Orlando and staying either near the airport or closer to port. I've seen lots of posts about Ron Jon's, but not sure if we can make it there early enough to enjoy. My hubby wants to go two days early and check out the NASA stuff, but I don't want kids to miss anymore school than they need to.

Teresa,
We live in Florida so we'll be driving to Port Canaveral. It's about a seven hour drive- I'm sure it'll seem like an eternity. Have you considered spending a few days at WDW before the cruise? If you haven't been before it would be worth letting the girls skip a few extra days of school. No, I don't have the video-where can I get it? I read that the Travel Channel is broadcasting a show about the DCL. I missed the premier on Tuesday night but it will be airing again this Saturday afternoon. We are one day closer to a heck of fun week......YEAH!

Shelley

Shelley...

My girls would LOVE to live closer to WDW, but it makes it more fun when we can visit. My DH wanted to do the 3 day WDW and 4 day DCL, but I wanted to do one or the other. Nothing like unpacking for an entire week. I'm sure WDW is in our future and maybe next time, we'll do the land/sea.

You can order the DCL video or DVD through Disney under Vacation Planning: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/disneycruiseline/requestmedia/requestmediaindex?id=RequestMedia

Make sure to check out the DCL on the Travel Channel. It's different than the video, so you get more information.

:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc to being one day closer!!!!

Teresa,
You are absolutely right! Our family will be taking our fourteenth trip to WDW next month and my boys are rather ho-hum about it. Especially my 12 year old. Visiting anywhere less frequently definitely makes the trip more special. The cruise will be a nice change of scenery for us. Have you decided on the excusions you will be venturing on while onshore?

Shelley -

We're still checking into it, but I'd like to do the stingray snorkel on Grand Cayman and I was just reading about the buggy tour on Cozumel that sounds like fun. I'd like to just hang out on Castaway. How about you guys?

Teresa,
Our travel agent said that the stingray snorkel is a lot of fun and very popular. He recommended that if we choose to book to do so well in advance so keep that in mind.We really haven't decided on what to do while in port. There are so may choices that it's almost overwhelming. I saw the DCL special on the Travel channel today- we're going to have a blast. The Animator's Palate dining room looked really cool. It looks like the kids will have plenty to do!

still counting the days down..............

Shelley...

I figure when we're 6 months out, we'll book our excursions. I don't think we'd need to do it any earlier than that. I just have to make sure we'll book the right stingray trip. There are two and one you snorkel in shallow water, where as the other one it's deeper. I think my kids would be more comfortable it they could touch the bottom.

There are so many things to do, it's hard to pick just one.

Glad you got to see the DCL on the Travel Channel. Make sure you order the DVD or video and you'll see a lot more. All the restaurants look great and can't wait to eat in them. Are you and your DH going to Palo's? We'd like to, but I'm not going to stress about reservations. I figure on a 7 day, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi, Tera!

Never too early to obsess!!!! Myself, DH and 2DS's (9 and 3 at that time) will also be on the May 7, 2005 Magic!!! We did a 3 day Wonder last May and caught the bug.

Being the compulsive planner - I've got two excursions already booked - Captain Marvins, and the Sea Lion Swim. I'd have done the jet skis in Key West, but they wouldn't let me....;)

Pretty soon, down to the one year and counting mark!!!:bounce:

Hi Griggle and Welcome to our Complusive Planner Club!!!! :D Do you guys have you cabin assignments yet? I'm starting to slow down with my obsession on this board, only checking 20 times a day:hyper: It's good that you guys have your excursions done already. I didn't think you could plan those out to far ahead. Did you go through DCL or directly with each excursion. My family and I will need to finalize what we're going to do and get those booked soon.

Can't wait :bounce: can't wait :Pinkbounc can't wait :bounce:

LOL!

I ended up booking all the excursions directly - worked out better with the timing and probably cheaper in the long run. I've booked Sting Ray City with Captain Marvins and the SeaLion Swim in Cozemel. Neither laughed at me (er, well to my "face" anyway;) ) when I called. I was thinking that since this was the last posted date cruise before a possible itinerary change, the ship would be packed and didn't want to take any chances on things getting booked up....besides, I felt like I had to do something.

I booked directly with DCL and got my room assignment that day. We're in cabin 8502. We were in cabin 8012 (through an unexpected upgrade!) on the Wonder last year and we were happy with it, so I wanted something close but on the opposite side of the ship. We're one door down from the bridge. I should be fun to watch the captain navigate his way into port - well, for those that we're awake for and on our side of the ship.

I'm also be taking DS out of school for the week. Last year when we did it, the school was fine with it. How about everyone elses?

On the plane going down last year - some of the stories I heard ! UGH! I know it's somewhat child dependant, but school reactions go from one extreme to the other.

Griggle -

Which Stingray Tour are you doing, the 3 hour or 2 1/2 hour? I want to make sure we do the one in the shallow water. I'm not sure which one that is, but I've seen it posted. Guess I should get it together and start booking these.

I've read so much about upgrades on these boards that I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm not going to be disappointed if we don't.

I haven't talked to the school yet regarding pulling the girls out for a week, but I'm not worried about it. They only have about two weeks left when we get home and it's not like they won't have enough notice. If it's a problem, TOUGH!
