7/28-8/13 Chef Mickey's @ Convention Center

Can't blame you for switching. I am nervous about our Chef Mickey ADR on 8/25. Does anyone know what the maintenance is?

I love how it says "the guest experience should not be affected". A big part of the experience is eating in the Contemporary while the monorail goes by overhead! I hadn't heard about this relocation. We're just barely missing it. We head home 7/28 and will have breakfast there the previous day. Thanks for posting the link.

Agree with the PP's that there is no way the experience in the convention center is going to be as good as in the tower.

I saw the DIS article, but did not receive an email notice that the venue was changing. Had made the Chef Mickey's ressie 24-48 hours previously. Could be a cluster if people arrive to the CR and have to get redirected to the convention center. The experience IS the location (for me). It was my first stay at age 3 and I look forward to a walk through, at least, each visit. This was going to be our first Chef Mickey's. No worries, there will be other trips.

i just this morning received an email regarding our ADR for dinner on August 6th...
why did they only send me the email this morning?
they seem to have known about the change for a while...
this is very late notice to try to find an alternative ADR for August 6th.....
not to mention, we're a group of 8....even more difficult to find an ADR..
really very annoyed...
and yes, the email says "your experience will remain the same"...
really? i don't think so....
and they charge a lot of money for dinner at chef mickey...

.

Jist my .02 I would cancel. Been to Chef Mickeys. Location IS the only reason to book that place. Your kids have MANY other opportunities to meet Mickey and crew. And food is standard Disney buffett. Unless your trip excludes any park tix and this is only xhance for Mickey Maybe there are some families whose only Disney experience is CMs????

Anyways not sure if the QS is affected, eat there and watch the monorail. 55$ in a convention center is a joke. They shouldnreduce the price

Hello!

We hope you are looking forward to your upcoming visit to the Walt Disney World Resort.

We wanted to provide you with some important information regarding your reservation at Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Due to unplanned kitchen maintenance that coincides with your dining experience, we are moving our all-you-care-to-eat buffet with Chef Mickey and friends to the convention center at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Except for the location, your experience and reservation time will remain the same. You will have the same opportunity to create magical memories with Chef Mickey and his friends in our temporary home. Again, we are sending this message to ensure that you have the most up to date information regarding where to check in for your dining experience.

When you arrive to Disney’s Contemporary Resort for your dining reservation, Cast Members will be on hand to assist you with directions to the new location at the convention center. Again, your dining reservation time has not changed aside from the location within Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, you are welcome to reply to this email and a Cast Member will contact you. In your message, please include your name, telephone number, and your reservation number.

We look forward to hosting you soon.

yes, this is the email i received..
but why did i only get it today?????
our ADR is for august 6th...
why did they send it only today when they knew about it for at least two weeks?

.

i just this morning received an email regarding our ADR for dinner on August 6th...

1) You would have to ask them; perhaps they're going in date order?
2) It's difficult to plan for unplanned maintenance.
3) But not impossible, and the sooner you call Dining Reservatios for assistance, the greater your options - even for eight people.
4) As far as the restaurant itself (place where people pay to sit and eat meals that are cooked and served on the premises) is concerned, your experience will not change, with the exception noted below. You will still have food, you will still have characters. The novelty of the pretty much silent monorail wears off after a couple of vehicles glide through.
Except for the location, your experience and reservation time will remain the same.

Personally, I would not not cancel. The main draw of this meal is the characters and those interactions are not going to change with a location change. Those commenting on the monorail being a big part of the overall experience, I can't actually recall seeing the monorail while I was eating so I think this really depends on where you are sat or it's possible that after the first couple through you don't even notice it anymore. You could always still tour the tower lobby before or after your meal to take in that monorail view if it's super important to you.

I received my e mail yesterday for an August 11 reservation. My family chose a return to Chef Mickey for the character interaction and the food, so at least that should be the same. We are doing lunch this time instead of dinner.

2) it's been public knowledge for at least two weeks - 30 days in advance of it occurring is not exactly "unplanned" maintenance...
unplanned is when your pipes burst in your house and you make a desperate call to your plumber...
after receiving the email this morning, i checked on the internet and saw that the information has been on the fan sites for at least 2 weeks...
so WDW could have emailed me about this 2 weeks ago - computers are amazing things....you can just do a blanket send to everyone with a reservation between july 28 and august 13...no fuss, no muss.....this does not take 2 weeks to do...

4) nice for you to decide for my family what is important and what isn't (for a $55 per person meal)....
i picked chef mickey with the CR and monorail in mind as the 1 and 3 year olds in our group will probably find it far more interesting than the food, and possibly more interesting than mickey (who only shows up for a few minutes anyway)...
and for that matter, i love watching the monorail....
perhaps the novelty wears off for you, but in visiting WDW every year since 1974, including staying at CR in 1974, i still haven't tired of watching the it go through the building...perhaps i'm just simple that way...

bottom line - take a tip from thumper the next time you respond to someone who is very upset....

thank you for upsetting me even more.... have a nice day (o lo)...

.

and just this very second got another email from WDW guest services essentially saying that i could ignore their earlier email..
they're not moving to the convention center...
oh well...already cancelled the ADR......
are these people smoking something?

here's the email (received 4 minutes ago)

Dear Cherished Guest,

I'll see if I receive the same email..

so WDW could have emailed me about this 2 weeks ago
Again, probably contacting guests in date order.
and possibly more interesting than mickey (who only shows up for a few minutes anyway).
As I believe I said, it's a novelty the first or second time. I'm sure there are guests who gaze at the monorail vehicles or track continuously while eating, but overall monorail vehicles enter and leave the building probably only a total of a few minutes during any party's meal.
actly "unplanned" maintenance...
unplanned is when your pipes burst in your house and you make a desperate call to your plumber
No. That's an emergency. Unplanned maintenance is a vital piece of equipment operating less than its potential or failing long before the typical life of that equipment, and needing to make do with available resources until that item can be repaired or replaced, and scheduling the necessary work/purchase.
they're not moving to the convention center.
The e-mail didn't say they're not making the temporary move. It said your date will now not be affected.

I got an email yesterday (kind of funny was just planning to cancel the ADR) saying we were all good (i.e. same email as posted above, letting us know we'd still be in the regular restaurant). Love!
