7/18/10 Mickey's Baltic Ballyhoo Part 6

Sheesh - on top of everything else my daughter comes down with strep today and we leave tomorrow. Hopefully the anti-biotics work quickly!

Got our postcards for the exchange and I just want to put a disclaimer. We live in Lincoln, NE so I was forced to get postcards with the Huskers on them but my daughter and I are in no way Husker fans! (for those of you futball fans this is the equivalent for me of buying stuff from your most hated World Cup rival)

Look forward to meeting you all! (assuming my daughter gets well enough to fly quickly...)
Hope DD recovers quickly!

Just wanted to share a website I found today : cruisereport.com

I found the following info about ships in port :

July 20 Oslo : Magic
July 21 Copenhagen : Magic, Star Princess, Silver Sea
July 22 Warnemunde : Magic
July 24 St Petersburg : Magic,Jewel of Seas, Eurodam, Regent Seven Seas Voyager, Silver Sea
July 25 St Petersburg : same minus Eurodam
July 26 Tallin : Magic, Jewel of Seas
July 27 Stockholm : Magic, Crystal Symphony, MSC Orchestra
Thanks! That's good info!
Congratulations!!! I just got home from errands, a little to late. Probably our last pirate run too.

I went to 5 stores looking for post cards. I too hate the ones I found. It is of the wineries but off season when there are just dry branches. Who takes pictures during this time? I will keep my eye out in case something turns up before we leave. I couldn't even find any from the Balloon and Wine Festival.
We found ours at Walmart in a cash register line.
Something tells me this is the last pirate for this cruise thread.:upsidedow

OK Andrew, you're on MY postcard list.
I think some others had expressed an interest but didn't follow up with a PM.
I'll bring some extra cards. Maybe I'll make some up if I have time.

Like others have found, local pc's are not all that plentiful. I have some from Vero Beach, some from Orlando, some from Florida, and my sister in cabin 7504 has contributed some Rhode Island cards.

Just wondering what the best way is to get to and from London to Dover port is? I have rented a private apartment in London for 4 days prior, and some unusual water tower accomodation for 4 days after the cruise. There are 6 of us in our party. We are very excited to see London.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give, Krista

I "feel your pain". My husband was at the dentist today (unexpectantly) getting a root canal following an abcess drained. He said better now than next week !!

Did they give your daughter a shot of antibiotics ? That's what our ped advises. Hope she feel better real soon !:flower3:

Hope he recovers as fast as my daughter seems to have. Got to love kids. Wife is in panic mode for packing. I would be too but I am not allowed to help other than to gather stuff which I have already done.

I'll PM you, but basically your choice is train or car rental or chauffeur car. I need to check with DH but I think the ballyhoo buses are now full

Glad your DD is feeling better:thumbsup2

We're doing our packing this weekend. MY DH gathers his own stuff, but I have to make sure he is bringing his nicer clothes or he would just pack any old thing:headache:

A word of warning...we will most likely have our port clothes (jeans and t-shirts) do double duty as dinner clothes a few times, but probably only in AP and PC (and not formal or semi-formal night).

Now I'm making sure only decent looking jeans and t-shirts are packed and we will dress up on most nights...just paranoid I guess

For the life of me I can't remember what anyone wore to dinner, but I know some folks on the DIS care alot (hence the many threads on the topic:rolleyes:)

Watched some of the Rick Steve's Baltic DVD last night. It was ok, just not as good as the other Baltic DVD we watched a few months ago (John Lawrence). Gotta pull that first one out now to prep the kids and refresh my memory.

If it's anything like the Med cruise we were on, a few times we came in from excursions straight to dinner and had on whatever we wore during the day. I plan on capris and tops on excursion days and dressing up the forml/semi formal nights and for Palo. I just hope we get all of our luggage fine and don't have to wear Treasure Ketch finery! Seemed like we had a ton of people missing luggage on our 7/7/07 Med cruise.

I really never notice what anyone wears to dinner unless it's something extreme that pops out of the background---we are all too interested in eating.

Checked to make sure my room was still reserved at my London hotel.

Heard someone from the first cruise lost their room somehow:rolleyes1

We checked too after getting worried when we got a message from Expedia asking how we liked the hotel on our recent trip...

planning on booking on board for the Dream in 2011

anyone else?

We booked the Dream for July 24, 2011. It's a 5 Night with a double dip at CC. We can't wait!

We are going to see how many DVC points the LA to Vancouver repo would be to book on board for next April. We have good friends we met on our Med cruise and met up with a few times at WDW that are on it. Seems like a good deal.

Laurie,
We might look at booking onboard for the Dream but kind of waiting for the DVC members cruise in 2011 on the Dream to open up. I think I read:surfweb: that it will be in early September which would work well for us:woohoo:

Congrats on your achieving your 3rd Pirate status :dance3:pirate: pirate: pirate:

I understand your concern  I spent so much time coordinating daytime clothes that I forgot about evening options. Worked on that a little last night and am planning 3 -4 nights with a dress or skirt option and 4 nights with dressier slacks and tops, then formal night and semi-formal. We are off the ship both nights in STP for dinner. DH decided against renting a tux so he's bringing a sport coat and tie :lmao:. We also decided to leave the pirate gear at home too pirate: for this cruise. I too remember a few folks on our 7/17 Med cruise that never got their luggage and wore Treasure Ketch outfits :headache:

This is the weekend where I want to pull all our excursion details together and make my travel binder. Did this for our Med cruise and it was very helpful. Also the clothes will probably start going into the suitcases :scared1:

No Problem!:thumbsup2

We view all these cruises as vacations :dance3: Dressing up is not our idea of a vacation :dance3: That being said we will wear a jacket for Formal & Semi-Formal night (& pants as well:lmao:) we have been known to come to dinner in cargo shorts (cover the knees suitable for churches):rotfl:

If I were not doing a B2B I would have rented tuxes for formal nights but they wanted me to rent for 2 seperate cruises!

Again other than those formal nights we are very informal!:dance3:

People who want to dress up all the time are okay as that is what they want to do. However no one should impose their families standards on another family who are just as entitled to do what they deem fun on their vacation!:teacher::thumbsup2

Okay I am off of my soap box!:lmao::thumbsup2:rotfl2:;):rotfl::laughing: :dance3:

Greetings from a train somewhere on the way to York. Thanks Andrew for the great weather in London. We are leaving before it starts feeling too much like home. We had a great time in London. Lion king was fabolous. The really used the entire theater. My only advise is if u use the HOHO or the Big Bus buy there tickets to the attractions. We went to Madame Tussods and was able to avoid a huge line with the VIP ticket plus it was slightly cheaper.

Well we are now off to head North and I think the kids are ready for a slower pace. We all just got so tired. It reminded me of WDW, so much to see and so little time to see it in.

Hope everyone is well. I haven't yet had time to read all the added pages in only 5 days. Have carefully trips for those headed this way. More Later. Sarah

We will start packing this weekend after doing some final laundry.

A lot of our clothes are already segregated, but not packed, and I have a bag sitting in our bedroom that I keep throwing misc. items in.

Packing for us goes like this:
I make a list of all outfits (mainly for dinner) and the # of other things we'll need (t-shirts, etc.) I inform my DH of my selections and he has the opportunity to veto and substitute. From there, it's just a matter of putting the things written on paper into an actual bag. Of course, when it comes to him counting out the t-shirts and throwing them in a bag, I have the veto power.

We tend to overdress for dinner. I have a dress for every night (not all Fancy). Of course, this is how I dress at home too. I like to dress up. Though, DH is not wearing tux or suit for formal night, 'just' dress pants, nice shirt, sport coat and tie.

Other than formal & semi formal (& Palo) we are casual, but not scruffy - girls were t-shirt material dresses - easy to pack & can be worn the following day assuming they are not carrying last nights dinner on it!

Saw some chat a while back about meds - in the UK antibiotics etc. are not bought over the counter, you have to get a prescription from a doctor.

Pics of puppy - too cute!

Weather in UK is still gorgeously hot & sunny.

Off to start packing

We usually don't pack many otc meds but we have a little pharmacy this time of just in case medicine: bonine, sinus meds, Advil, immodium, cough drops, tums and pepto bismol. We didnt' want to get sick and have to try and buy them in Russia or somewhere where we wouldn't know what we were getting. If anyone needs anything they forgot and we have it, just ask!

Do you need a sweater or jacket at night? I haven't gotten around to looking up the 10 day forecasts yet. We figured we'd pack clothing we can layer. I still am having a hard time cutting down from 10 pair of shoes....
