7/14/2014 - 12-Night Mediterranean Cruise (with Greece) Venice to Barcelona

welcome, mps! I agree, i'm really looking forward to the experience posts.

Tammy - the reason you thought (hoped?) it was 18 (or more!) was because you want everyone to come and party! Right? :d

we should just make a meeting point on pirate night on deck 9 and make up a mixed drink to unite us, and party on deck. We could call it the disboard coladas. :rotfl2:

fun!

meeting on deck is fun after boarding....or even in a room or something.

I've been on a couple cruises where we had lanyards made just for our group. Don't have a clue where they had them made but it was super cool having our own. People always came up to us and asked who we were because of the different lanyard.

Since this is a one of a kind cruise I am hoping Disney makes a big deal about it.

Wonder if Captain Tom will lead us? He lives part-time in Venice and part-time in FL. Then the rest on a ship...::yes::

sorry...just thinking out loud....:rolleyes1

We have generally met in the Promenade Lounge around 3, handed out the name tags for the lanyards and matched faces to DIS names :grouphug:

Could we get the first poster to run a roll call ?

great idea....that's where we met on the last cruise too!!!:thumbsup2
Who does the name tags for lanyards? Does it just slip into the one you are given? Two different cruises we got special lanyards. The part that goes around your neck had the cruise name on it....

Wow, I feel we are late to the party, 11 pages :scared1: I need to catch up and just got started :surfweb: We booked within 15 minutes of opening to be sure to get on this cruise, did the MED in 2010. It will be Me, DW and DD (23 at time of cruise).

:welcome:
Never to late to a DCL party. ;)
This will be our first cruise in the Med, even though we know some of the places quite well, since we live here in Europe, but travelling by ship should be a different experience. :thumbsup2

What a fun idea! :thumbsup2 I am always in for a nice drink. ;)
Any idea if they will have fireworks while they are cruising in Europe? It just occured to me that they might not - regulations are a bit tight here. :confused3

I love the idea of meeting up after boarding! Yeah should be fun! We have always had DISmeets when cruising out of Florida! :thumbsup2

I really hope that they will make a big deal out of these "special" cruises. Finally I do not have to think about customs and how to get everything home. :rotfl2:
Hm, Captain Tom? We have never sailed with him yet, so would love to meet him. :thumbsup2

If the first poster doesn't mind, I can do that. I usually do if for all the cruises we are on. ;) Helps with coping with my excitement. :rotfl2:

Oh, and I can then add it to my posts as I have done before. ;)

Okay, done ......

Links are taken off! I did NOT want to interfere with the person running the thread, or the FE, just trying to help. I am SORRY!

On our MED cruise we opted for portrait layout name tags so we provided pouches to accommodate. Other times we have just made landscape name tags to slide right into to pouch provided on CC lanyards. One of the more artistic DISers usually comes up with a unique trip design that can be incorporated into the name tag, we had great ones in the MED and Alaska and have another good one for Panama Canal. Then its just a matter of who gets the honor of making them up, cold or hot lamination. :wizard:

Thanks Karin ?

We are: Mike, DW-Donna and DD Jessi (23 at sailing), stateroom 6570 and early dining. Have not selected a hotel in Venice yet but getting some recommendations from a frequent visitor just off the beaten path.

Fireworks - Yes, we will have fireworks in Santorini, on Day 9, at 9:45PM.

I'm going to update my post on page 6 with the daily itinerary.

:woohoo:
Thanks, that is just so awesome to know!

Guess I should do a bit more research on this cruise, but we have 3 more prior to it and I really need to look into this summer's Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. :rotfl2:

We are on the June 27th, 2013 Med sailing and we are having Pirate night with fireworks on the evening of the day we visit Dubrovnik. :cool1:

More for your navigational pleasure - the Port of Piraeus:

you're welcome. I'll add more as I do more research instead of actually working to pay off this trip. We tend to do ports on our own, rather than do the excursions, and it's wicked helpful to me to see maps of "get off here, go there, do this" and we're fine.

I'm excited to hear about your private tour - that will be awesome.

Thank you so much for the port maps!

On our 2011 Med cruise, we only used DCL excursions in two ports (Valetta, Malta and Palermo, Sicily). In Malta, our DD23 and DS18 did the Turkish Schooner, while DH and I just wandered around Valetta and went to a flea market to buy a lace runner. In Palermo, we did the Selinunte & Marinella tour and beach trip.

We had a private driver and tour guides for Naples, Rome, and Florence/Pisa -- all with the same awesome company. We did Corsica and Villefranche completely on our own.

I think it was the perfect mix of free, unstructured touring and really good tour guides. I am hoping that Howard and I will find the right mix on this trip, so that we don't feel like we missed out on seeing any significant cultural or historical sites, but also that we aren't completely wiped out my the sometimes rushed nature of structured tours.
