Hi,

We bought at SSR yesterday and became new DVC members. Our guide is out till Friday, but I know you experienced DVC members can answer this.

Ok, our use month is December. Starting in Jan we can book our home resort. Starting in May we can book any other Disney resort. Am I correct? Now the tricky part. Due we ever get to book a vacation for the month of December and how would we do this? Since year would end November 30th. Please forget about the special of SSR starting. Just think normal year.

Thanks for the help.

Was this the best thing you ever did for your family?

That't the downside with a December use year. I really think they ought to make people aware that with a December use year, you can't take December vacations. I mean, December is a great time to go. I guess they don't tell people so that they can make more sales.

Sorry

:jester:

What? We have a DEC use year (at BWV/VB/VWL and now SSR) and we have taken December vacations. We are taking another one this December.
I am confused about why having a certain use year takes you out of vacationing that month....

I would get the information from your guide directly. Again, we have Dec use years and have taken 3 Dec vacations (as well as Jan, March, April, May, September, and Oct vacations) :)

You may make December reservations 11 months ahead in January each year. Your points will be renewed on December 1 each year, so you will have thoes available- plus any you have banked from the prior year (and could also borrow from the subsequent year if needed).

Reservations are based on the points you will have available at the time of the reservation- not on what is available at the moment you call- so you'll always have access to the next year's points.

You should be able to make a non-home reservation using your SSR points (for any date after May 1, 2004) in January also. The points will work like they do for any other DVC member (regarding the 7 month prioirity), but in this case, they cannot be used for any date prior to the resort actually opening.

Enjoy!!

Richyams!!!!!!! Now that was just mean. You know that no one is allowed to book a DVC room for December, unless they are staying on cash (especially, if you want a GV!). This is the same for all members, not just those of us with a Dec use year!!!;)

It's really sad that some people have nothing better to do with their time then post information they know to be incorrect, thinking that it's funny. I don't see the humor in it, and would politely request that it not happen again.

Pete

Thank you Pete. I didn't take it as humor either....I just didn't want to mislead a new member. :)

Sorry Pete:o

Actually, December is the best use year to have if you intend on vacationing often in December. The fact that you don't have the points in your account at the time of reservation is meaningless. All that matters is that they will be available at the time of the intended vacation.

You get points 12-1-04, on 1-1-03 you can make a reservation for 12-1-04. You will have the points and they will be 'used' or subtracted from your account.

On 1-15-03 you can reserve up to 12-15-04 using as many of your 04 points as you wish....you can even begin borrowing from 12-1-05 allotment.

A simple rule is that your use year has absolutely no bearing at all upon when you can make reservations. None at all. The only things that matter are the 7-11 month windows and that you will have sufficient points available during the stay.

edit: I forgot to tell you why its the best use year for December vacations.....if you do have to cancel, as long as you do it more than 30 days prior, you still have a WHOLE year to use the points. You still have lots of time to bank too.

I am also sorry robmary and Pete. Sometimes, sarcasm takes over. We should not be so mean, especially when it is a new poster.
