6th Annual Christmas Thread

Any ideas for a teenage boy? I'm stuck on my cousin, who's sixteen (so a junior in HS). I'm going to make a pillowcase out of this cool fabric that has tapes printed on it. But I need something a little more...exciting :rotfl:

what about GCs for fast food places...iTunes, the local movie theater....

Had a very successful day today thanks to some sales. I bought DH 3 picture frames to reframe his parents' and son's pictures, DGC #1 baby doll, DGC #2 a messenger bag to color, Barbie for Toys for Tots, watch for DS, DBC toy tool set with battery operated drill. I spent a total of $52 by buying things on sale, using 30% off coupon and $20 Kohls cash and earned $10 Kohls cash. I got more clicked off my list - so happy. I also found several good deals online that I plan to take advantage of when I get paid on Monday.

Scored 8 gifts yesterday for $4.00! I would have thought of this, so I wanted to share!!! I am in nursing school and we toured a hospital/group home for MR clients. They each have small jobs on the campus. They make soaps, pottery, lots of homemade goods. I bought notepads that the clients package together and stamp initials on. Each notepad was .50 (about 25 sheets of note paper). So all of our school teachers/church and day care teachers are getting personalized note pads. Perhaps your area has a MR school/hospital/home that does something similar.

Well, today I plan on having about 3/4 of my shopping finished!! I will have my mom finished except for stocking stuffers and will be almost done with my dad. And my fur babies are done!
For my mom she is getting:
Gold hoop earrings
Coach purse
Bath and body works gel
Heated mattress cover
Tickets to an Elvis show
Laptop tray for bed
A couple giftcards

For my dad:
Tshirts
Lizard lick towing shirt
Razors and shaving cream
Rolodex filled with giftcards
A book of cars from the 60's
Gift certificate for oil change

The stockings will also have scratch offs in them and deodorants and such.

Whew, I will be glad to have my shopping finished!

Help. Need some game ideas for my niece (8) and my nephew (5). They are starting family games night on Saturday nights so they need to be family games. Nephew is only 5 so he really doesn't read. They already have Jenga, Horseopoly and Headbandz. I'm thinking about Sorry, maybe Operation (but that's so dang noisy). Any ideas?????

My kids (8 an 5) like the game Trouble. My 5yo old does not have the attention span to play Sorry. She always quits about 3/4 of the way through. HTH!

Our kids from every age love Pictureka. I highly recommend it. Even the adults love that one, and a pre-reader would love it too!

OK, so who is ready to talk CHRISTMAS MOVIES? What are your absolute favorites? I will start us off.....

A Christmas Story
Christmas in Connecticut
Christmas with the Kranks
Polar Express

Operation (or operational as my DD5 calls it) is a great game for a 5 year old! My DD5 loves game night and currently our rotation is operation, UNO, chutes and ladders, candy land, cootie and hi ho cherrio. Hope this helps!

Hi guys!! so far have bought my older DD8 a Micro Scooter half price off and free shipping and i'm on the look out for 2 tablets for both DD's. Thinking of just getting Brother and sister in law gift cards and something for their fur babies.
No clue for my sister and brother in law and 14 yr old nephew, I also have 4 teachers, DH and mom uhg! thats another issue :confused3

What about a family gift like a game night or movie night themed basket?

Does he have a car, what about a gas GC? Does he play video games, you could get him a subscription to Xbox Live, or microsoft points.
It seems pretty boring to us but at that age cash is probably the most exciting gift

Well, today I plan on having about 3/4 of my shopping finished!!

I'm jealous! I don't think I'll have 3/4 of my shopping done by December this year :rolleyes1

I had taken my dd out shopping for a dress and since I had to bring my dses I bribed them with a stop to Game Stop and Toys R Us. It defintely helped give me ideas and I was feeling a little better about things. Then I get home and dh throws a monkey in the wrench and says he is thinking of getting dirt bikes for him and the boys  These wouldn't be for Christmas, just something that they can do together. (He wants to get used ones that need work and they all fix them up together) I said no way is he just going to go out and buy dirt bikes, if that is what he wants to do then it will have to be for Christmas. They will all need protective gear too so that will be it, no way are they getting other stuff.

*I am not happy about the idea of my dses riding, but dh is a hick and grew up in the country doing that stuff at a young age. I trust him to make sure my dses are safe*

Now, I'm stuck in limbo because if he isn't really serious, or if he just doesn't do what he has to do to get the bikes then I need other ideas and I don't want to be stuck at the last minute scrambling to figure them out. Dh just doesn't get it :headache:
If no bikes then I know I will renew my older ds's subscription to Live, and get my younger one a new membership.
I already have the newest Minecraft lego sets for ds12, and Disney Infinity for ds9. While he was out he showed me some Skylanders figures he wants and some video game action figures he likes.
Other than that stuff I am really at a loss.

At least my dd is covered. She was oogling the pink ipod touch and she said that is the only thing she wants. Now I just need to decide between that or an iphone (with a pink case ;)) and she'll be done.

Still no definite ideas about anyone else on my list.
My grandmother and my dad will be the hardest. Every year it just gets more difficult to think of something that I haven't already done for them.
I hope you all keep posting, I'm watching for ideas!

I love this thread every year! I usually start shopping in October, so I thought now would be the perfect time to join in.

As a teacher, I am thankful for personal notes thanking me for something I have done for the child. I love getting a small gift card to a fast food restaurant $5. I have my child write in the card thanking the teacher for something they have specifically done for him. This year we have 3 teachers -exchanging classes for the first time. One teacher he is with 1/2 day the other two for 60 minutes each. I am baking pumpkin bread for all 3 for breakfast for their family the first day they are off. His homeroom will also get a wristlet wallet.

I just looked over my list for this year. I only have 13 left to buy. Six are gift cards or money to go in cards that I can wait on until I get my Christmas bonus and 7 are things I need to find. I knocked out 7 this weekend. Hope to be done all but gift cards by mid -November including wrapping.

What do you spend per child? We have 1 child so he has no other toys laying around from prior children. As a result- he grows out of his old toys and he needs new ones (or used ones) :)

Right now if I buy what I want to buy I am at 225 for Christmas...and his birthday is 1 month later and I'm at 125 for that. Then we will probably spend another 100 on Easter (outside type gifts). He's only 2yo and right now my focus is on books and everything little people :)

I know every family has a different budget~and at different times of life their needs and wants really change..but for us, around $350 per kid...This year might be less~they are older and do not ask for as much..

It varies here. My kids are less than 2 years apart so little brother gets a lot of hand me down toys from big sister.

I will say that Little People are AMAZING! Basically my kids will play with those toys than anything else :)

Come on all! None of you watch Christmas movies?????

I love Christmas in Connecticut and the Christmas Story and the Polar Express too!! also, all the old cartoon movies~Rudolph, Frosty, any of those... It's a Wonderful Life,..Holiday Inn, White Christmas..all the old old shows!

i am doing math w/dd right now and can't think of anymore~ I will have a list in the middle of the night I am sure!
