It was 65 years ago today that the brave men of the Allied Forces of WWII landed enmasse at the beaches at Normandy, France... They along with the fearless troopers of the 101st and 82nd Airborne began the massive offensive to establish a beach head in Europe to end the reign of evil. God Bless those brave men!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Baloo, and thank you to the nearly 2500 brave men who never made it off that beach 65 years ago today.

Although I have no idea what it was like to be in D-Day, there are some video games that potray it, and while it may seem trivial, even those give a bit of a sense of the overwelming odds that faced these incredibly brave men.

After seeing the kinds of things they were up against, even on a virtual battlefield, they have my everlasting admiration.
 

Thank you for that reminder. How quickly we forget! I'd watch "Saving Private Ryan" tonight if I could sit through it. The first 30 minutes are such anguish I can't even listen to it, let alone watch. Normandy was truly a horror on earth. I can't even imagine going through that beach landing.
 
A generation like no other. God bless them all. Sadly, over 1,000 veterans a day from WW II are passing on now. Sad. Thank you to all of them.

My uncle (a WWII vet and former POW) is probably on his last days now. He is battling cancer. Before being diagnosed, he was very active in Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he attended funerals for WWII vets. It seemed like he went to one every day.
 
Thank you for the reminder. WWII Vets truly are members of the greatest generation (including my Dad :hug:) I hope you don't mind a WWII Vet story. My Dad is a retired NYC Detective (Very tough and a little scary but heart of gold type of guy) My DH , my Dad & Mom and I all went to see Private Ryan together. My Dad hurt his back "on the Job" so we were all seated after the show ended so Dad could slowly walk out because he would be stiff from sitting. A group of really scruffy looking teen boys (pants hanging down, earrings, etc) were walking up the aisle joking. One of them walked over to my father and said" Excuse me Sir. Were you in WWII ??" My Dad told him yes. And that his brother got a purple heart for D Day. The kid said " I just want to thank you and tell you how cool I think you guys were." He turned to his friends and told them to say Thank you to my father. The other boys mumbled a quick thanks. And I could hear them teasing the 1st boy and him telling them to shut up that WWII vets were touch and we were lucky we had them. Out of the mouths of Babes . So I huge Thank you to my Dad, Uncle Johnny and the hundreds like them. You truly are the Greatest Generation. :hug:
 
We just returned from the D-Day Memorial. It was raining all week, we were blessed with sunshine! It was a lovely day! There's talk about them closing down the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, I'm hoping they can keep it open to the public.
 
God bless them all (including my grandpa who we lost this past November). :angel:
