.

LOL!! I wouldn't have put my cart back either. I hate those self-checkouts, too. I like to have a real cashier ring up my stuff.

My Kroger does the same thing early in the morning. Well, who wants to buy all their groceries and check out themselves with 10 folks with one item behind them, antsy to get to work?

I'm one who loves self check outs. If the Walmart here had one you can bet I'll go use it, cause the walmart here usually has only 3-4 registers opened and about 7-8 people waiting per register.

I love self-checkout when I'm set up for what they're designed for: that is, a small amount of groceries to get through quickly. When I have a full cart, I much prefer to have a regular cashier to go through.

My issue with self checkouts is they should give you a discount for using one. They aren't paying a cashier or bag person and I am doing all the work.

I do like self checkouts most of the time. Sounds like a not so nice experience there today, Pem, hope the rest of the day is better.

I usually love self-checkouts except the Kmart one which has a scale under the platic bags designed to weigh what you put in your bag and gripe at you if it thinks you are stealing. It is not a system that works well. :p

I will only use the self checkouts if I have a few items. they are way too slow for me. (I've been a cashier and am now a trainer at a grocery store) Our store won't put them in because we believe in the customer service aspect of business....with self checkouts there is no customer service.

I am usually a big fan of self-checkout, but I agree that the ones they have at Wal-Mart STINK!!! I never get through them without a problem. Now I will only use them if I have a few things. It is just terrible having to make sure each item is correctly placed in the bag so that the little scale under the bag registers properly.

I think of all the places I've been to, BJs probably has the easiest and best-functioning self-checkouts.

I love using the self-checkouts, but then again, I've never experience the problems you described (sorry about that!)

I only use them when I have a couple of items, anything over 20 items and I go to the cashier.

I love self checkouts when the people using them know how to use. I've waited for people in front of me at self checkouts who have no clue how to use them. Sorry you had a bad experience.

I don't mind them for a few items! It says on the sign about the self-checkouts "The Fastlane". Dh & I had a good laugh about that! Even the store clerk hates them.

I use it all the time, and so far I haven't had a problems. My bill was much less than yours, maybe it works better with less items? I hate the regular lines they are always so busy.:D

We used to use the self-checkout in the super k-mart they had in N.O. before we moved here.... Now they have it here in Wal-Mart; I find it to speed up our checking out process dramatically as most people still go to registers and we use the self-checkout!

I love self-checkout, but only for a few items. It takes no time at all, and I don't have to make small talk with the cashier (I'm just not a chatter). The grocery stores here have a sign that states 15 items or less for their self-checkout. The only place I know of that doesn't statement an item limit is Home Depot.

I hate them, really, really hate them. If you have some big items like a few 12 packs of coke there isnt much room to set them on there and if you take them off to make room for anything else the machine starts screaming to place your item back up there  Then if you pay by cc you have to go see the cashier anyway (who could have checked you out.

I haven't seen any here. It would have been nice to have it yesterday when I bought a case of water at Kmart. I wasn't about to wait in line holding it when carts loaded to the top were at every register. I went to customer service and asked if they would ring it up. They were pleasant and did just that. Good thing or I would have left it there walked out. :teeth:

I like the self checkout, too. Unless I'm buying liquor I've never needed assistance. Our Wal-Mart has the scales under the bags as well. I'm quick with the "skip bagging" button ; )

I don;t mind self checout for just a few things but In style issues are hated by most for some reason
