Just added the new Wild Africa Trek to my birthday celebration weekend. We rented points from David for a quick weekend stay at SSR -- my birthday falls in the middle of the week, and I really can't cancel that many classes. So far I have reservations at Yachtman Steakhouse, and breakfast at Tusker House, and now the Safari.

We were just down for the 18th to 29th in December complete with stomach bug and cold weather, so I'm looking forward to whatever happens. I'm dreaming of the hot tub, and hope we get our Congress Park, DTD view request.

Have a great, great time celebrating your birthday!:cake: The Congress Park pool is my favorite at SSR. The view of DTD is spectacular at night.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday trip! I love Donald's breakfast at Tusker House!!

I hear you about cancelling classes - my birthday is always in the middle of finals. I would love to head out, let someone else give and grade those, but for some reason, that is frowned upon. ;) Hope you can enjoy your getaway! Stay healthy and have fun!

Sounds like an awesome celebration trip! I can't wait to hear all about the new safari tour!! Enjoy!

Thanks all for the good wishes. I will report back about the new safari tour.

I'm also planning to spend my 60th at WDW - in 2yrs & 20 days. I'm planning a week-long girls trip with a few friends. I'm hoping to get Victoria's & Albert's for dinner on my actual birthday. If you have to turn 60, what better place to do it than at WDW?

I can't wait to hear about this! Do they offer any discounts for DVC or AP holders or Disney VISA or ???

Have a great birthday trip!!

No discounts yet. The "special introductory rate" was $129 per person, with weight restrictions between 48 and 315 lbs. No pregnant women, and you should wear closed toe shoes with a back strap. Skirts are not recommended.

It sounds like we get hooked into climbing gear (?diaper sling) as safety gear on the bridge over the crocs. Guess I won't wear my my crocs -- pun intended.

I'm starting to get really excited about this four day trip.

Oh, I really wanted to do that Wild Africa trek! I know we can do it another time, but the price for January was incredible! Be sure you come back here and tell us all about it!

Here is the info from wdwinfo :
Walt Disney World has announced a new tour at Animal Kingdom. The Wild Africa Trek will take small groups on a guided hike with animal experts into some of the undeveloped areas of the “Harambe Reserve” of the Kilimanjaro Safari. You will then board a special vehicle to explore the rest of the Savannah. The tour will conclude with a "Taste of Africa" experience where guests can continue to view animals from a specially designed station. **Update: This new tour will begin January 16, 2011. Pricing will vary seasonally, but tours between January 16 and February 26, 2011 will cost $129 not including theme park admission. Guests can call 407-WDW-TOUR (407-939-8687) to make reservations for the Wild Africa Trek.

I know that when we rode Kilimanjaro Safari in Dec, we could see new staging over the crocodiles. I think that's part of the tour.

On the official Disney site, they mention being 10 feet above the hippos and the crocs.
