Hiya, was just wondering if you could help me out. I posted this on the budget board, but they suggested also posting it here to see what you guys think.

I am going this August and I will be there for 14 and a half days. I have my spending money set, but would a seperate $600 dollars over the 14 and half days be a good budget for food? Or would you recommend more?

We are staying off site in a villa, so some days we will be eating at home for breakfast, somedays maybe at the pondarosa or somewhere similar. I have been on the website and researched and this is how I came up with 600ish (Give or Take)

We have the guide book, and that suggests $12 for a lunch in the parks. I have also allowed $20 for an evening meal.

I plan on buying water from Walmart to take with me each day, so that should cut down the costs on water.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

how long is a pice of sting? everyones answer will differ,we budget on £100 per day so for 14 nights thats $2800 for 14 nights we never spend that much,that would be for 4 people,
is your budget for 2 or more $600 is around £300 so works out £21.50 around £5.35 per person per day for us, would find it hard to survive on that amount
Is the buget for just food, you whill have a car so you have to factor in fuel as well

Honestly though if it was me I'd be looking to apportion some of my 'spending money' to my food budget.

I always make three points when budge questions are raised;

Disney can be as expensive or as cheap (within reason) as you wish to make it. In your case if you are happy to stock up at Wal Mart then you arent going to spend a lot but equally if you eat at disney restaurants for lunch and dinner then its costly.

Dont tell yourself exactly how much money you have to spend each day. You'll end up spending all your holiday worrying about money and not enjoying yourself:worried Truth be told the cost of day to day living in the US is cheaper than hear and Im sure youll spend less than you think.

And lastly, Bennighans does an amazing burger for $5!!!!!!

As Paul says everyone is different. For us its $100/day for 3 of us, that covers food, gas, snacks, drinks and shopping. Last August spent $2500 in 25 nights.
I spend a lot of time printing vouchers and registering with websites for buy one meal get one free, free desserts etc. We eat lunches onsite (usually around $30) and evening meal offsite, varies from $16 at CiCi's all you can eat Pizza to around $50 at Texas Roadhouse.
Some people think nothing of spending $100+ just for 1 persons meal, food is available for all bugets.
Helps for us not drinking alcohol and not liking shopping.
So $600pp would be more than enough for us not for others.

Thanks for your replies. I won't be drinking any alcohol. I don't even drink in this country.

For the spending money excluding the money i have budgeted for food, is around $1800. So I'm sure I can give or take quite fairly and easily from the food budget.

Absolutely

I'd like to say the missis does all the shopping and i do all the drinking but when im in orlando something strange comes over and i seem to enjoy the malls as much as her Not like that at home i can promise.

Nothing like a night or two at jellyroles or DTD after a hard day at the m of m. Or ESPN for the football (american) awesum

When we went Feb 08, we spent about £2000 over 14 nights on food and drink. There was 7 of us, so that worked out at about £300 each. This included 10 meals at Disneys more expensive restaurants.

Sha I think that you should be able to manage on that but don't forget to factor in tips,currently the advised rate is 18%! If you are not near a Walmart lokk for Winn Dixie-register one of their discount cards (it's ok to use your villa address) this then allows you to get all their discounts-bogofs etc. We normally buy Gatorade & water,use them fresh out of the fridge & then just refill them from the fountains dotted around the parks. If you plan on doing the water parks then take your own packed lunch (you will be able to pick up a polystyrene cooler for about $5) you are officially allowed to take food into the water parks,we normally buy subs. As Wayne said look up any Restaurants that you think that you will visit,go to their site & register & most of them send you discount coupons to print off.When we first went Coupon booklets were everywhere & it was always part of the fun trawling thru' to find out where we would be eating but there doesn't seem to be as many of them out there now.

$600 for 14.5 days for 1 seems just fine....
Our family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children - we went in April, stayed in a villa, ate there some days, somedays out at Denny's, Ponderosa, Pizza Hut etc.... and ate at the parks for lunch mainly - portions are BIG so we shared 2 meals between us anyhow... , we ended up spending around $60 per day on average for the FOUR of us and we ate well. I suppose we added $10 for ice cream ($2.50 each pretty much anywhere in the parks) in the day too. Our biggest expense food wise was doing the princess breakfast at Epcot - $90 inc tips for the four of us - but there was so much food, we only had an ice cream during the day and some snacks (crisps and cookies from Walmart) for lunch and fruit for tea.

WalMart for water, fruit, snacks and bread, cereal, juice and milk etc - when you are there pick up the coupon books - usually near the entrance/exit - you'll get $10 off Ponderosa etc...

It is really easy to eat well for little in Florida - so long as you do not always eat at a Disney establishment!! Ahhh and so long as you don't want cooked vegetables other than corn on the cob when eating out..!

I think $600 will be fine,although we do stay off site+very rarely eat in the parks,this saves us so much money.The last time we went dh had his own counter service meal+me+dd(who was 3 at the time)shared an adult meal.Next year there will be 4 of us,our girls will share a counter service meal+some meals me+hubby will share,you are allowed to do this+an adult is also allowed to choose from a counter service childs menu,this will also save you some $$ if you don't eat big portions.We always buy our water,snacks,crisps from Walgreens+pack our small cooler bag for the day.Although we do allow treats of churro's+mickey bars+frozen lemonades .Our main dinners are always eaten along I-Drive,breakfasts next year are free in our hotel,but previously we fill ourselves up at the buffet restaurants-Golden Coral,Ponderosa+we love IHOP.x.

$600 should be fine if your not planning to eat in the fancier places too often. Most counter service food is around a $6-14 range depending. Plus places outside the world are normally a little cheaper. I'ld suggest bringing along a little extra maybe just in case, though.

As others have suggested, bring some snacks along for the day too. My family found granola bars, crisps, fruit and some drinks were always good. Disney lets you take food in these days (as long as you dont get too blatant about it and bring in a cooler or something)

We started to eat lunches in the parks but found them a bit pricey and not very healthy so after that we bought some sandwich stuff from walmart and started taking in our own sandwiches and fruit - cheaper, healthier then you can splash out later on.

ok for breakfast over hear i will have 2 bannanas,dinner is a packed one,six slices of brown bread with eater cheese and pickles or cooked meats and 2 pices of fruit and a muiler yougart(sometimes dw treats me with a min toberone)tea eather a cooked meal or a salard with chicken,supper if not a few cans of beer with crisps it would be a muiler yougart

Cost of meals will be considibly less than what i will spend in disney,what OP asked for is do we think she has enougth as shes on a budget,for ! i would think yes,now if it had been a question asking how much you will spend i wouldent have given a answer

DD (9) and I spent around $2400 in May and that included spending money and two character meals

In no way did we skimp on meals and had to buy two new cases to bring home all the 'stuff' we'd bought.............

Have to say that 'Golden Corrall' was a favourite, inexpensive buffet meal for us
