Within 30 days, I expect to close on a Hilton Head Property with 300 June 2003 points banked and 300 June 2004 points coming due. This was a resale with no broker involvement. The agreed upon price should pass ROFR and I am paying closing costs. The back up plan is 300 March points at SSR with Magical Beginnings that needs to close in early May 2004. This option at SSR was appealing due to the upcoming price increase and the fact that the next year is going to be really busy due to a move and job change that will make it tough to get away.
As a potential Disney newbie, I have 30 days or so before I can do anything with the points and would appreciate your thoughtful input as experienced DVC members. Please give me your thoughts on the following questions.
1 For the majority of you that will think I am nuts to even consider renting points, Im interested in your opinion on how to get the most value when using points for other than DVC and the Disney Collection about which I am already convinced are excellent. My observations from lurking are that the Concierge Collection is very nice and very over priced relative to cash. The transfer fee, especially for short stays kills this completely. The World Passport Collection through Interval International is very appealing, but much easier said than done. Flexibility in scheduling and destination seem to be the keys to success. I would really appreciate reading stories regarding consistently successful strategies for the World Passport Collection and some specific destination recommendations.
2 With no current Disney addiction, would it be wise to rent the points to offset the purchase cost? If yes, what is the simplest method of getting the most for a lot of points with the fewest transactions? Ive lurked on this board for a couple of weeks and noticed that there seems to be a lot of demand for small numbers of points and I prefer not to deal with a lot of transactions. Ive also noticed that $10 points get snapped up quickly so they may be undervalued at this price.
Thank you for your thoughts!
