6 year olds first trip

I definitely agree with a Princess meal or two. You have to eat anyway, so throwing in a fabulous Princess experience at the same time is a good use of your time + gives you that little bit of extra special experience. It also means you don't have to wait in line for as many meet & greets in the parks because you'll have already met several of the Princesses.

Other than that, with 4 park days on a once in a lifetime trip, I would not want to eat up too much of your time with "extras" - there is so much to see and do in each park that you will already not be able to get to it all, so I would really focus on your park touring. The extras are all wonderful, but really best kept for those on longer trips and/or repeat visitors. Don't forget to use the fastpasses to your advantage to save time waiting on big ticket attractions (like Toy Story or any of the mountains).

1. make sure to see her favorite characters
2. make time for the pool if she doesn't have one in her backyard
3. if she gets cranky offer food/water first
4. don't push her to stay if she's exhausted
5. The Dance Party in the HUB area at MK is a ton of fun, make sure to see that
6. Lion King show at AK is a must

Otherwise you really don't need to do much. Disney is a magical place for a 6 year old. just have fun!!!!

Has she been away from her parents for this long a time before? Be prepared for a bit of homesickness if not. Make sure you let her know she can talk to or Skype with them each day. Move at her pace and don't overthink things. She's going to enjoy WDW no matter whether you do extra things or not. It's all new and special for her.

At 6, she might be in the tooth losing phase - if she's lost one recently or has a loose one, you can have Tink leave a small gift and note explaining how she's friends with the tooth fairy, and helps out when kids are at WDW.

Buy or make her a First Trip t-shirt and ask for the First Visit button at park entrance or your resort - CMs will make an even bigger fuss over her than usual. Lots of shirt ideas on Etsy, Pinterest, here on Creative DISigns for a customized one.

I like Akershus and Garden Grill because they are fun and bring a bit of character interaction into a park that's less kid-centric than MK. Agent Ps Adventure is not an "extra" (it's free) but is also a fun thing to liven up World Showcase for kids.

I'm taking my 6 year old niece, with out her parents but with my mom (her grandma) on her first trip to WDW in Sept. My guess is this will probably be her only trip to WDW so I'm trying to make it as special and magical as possible. I realize that she will be overly excited just to be there but she is only young once so I want to make the trip even more special. Obviously, there are a lot of things that can be added to a Disney trip to make it better but I can't afford to do everything nor do we have the time to do everything. Our plan is to get to Disney in the evening on a Sunday and we would be leaving in the morning of a Friday. Since we have 4 days of park days my plan is to do EP and AK once and then be at MK twice and not do HS at all. At HS I think she would like the Frozen show, Toy Story Ride, and Little Mermaid show but I can't think of much else she would enjoy and I'd rather do two days at MK.

I do not have kids nor have I taken a kid to their first trip at WDW. So, my question is, if you could only pick one or two special things for a 6 year old girl to do during her first, and probably only, trip to WDW, what would you choose and why?

With 4 days and FP+ there's plenty of time to do almost everything in all of the parks. Start out slow in Fantacyland on your first day, and work your way up to the bigger attractions, including (If she's tall enough) Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Splash, Haunted Mansion, Pirates. I would not skip DHS. The Beauty and The Beast Show is great, as well as the others you mentioned and a few you didn't mention such as the Mupit 3D. Same thing there, start out slow and then work up to (If she's tall enough) Rock'n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror. Same at EPCOT and AK. I'd plan or riding EVERYTHING. If you'd just start out slow and work your way up, and be positive about everything, she'll have a great time.

Sorry to hijack....but how was this tour? I JUST signed up for it for the end of April. Would love more info.
It was just such a fun scavenger hunt with tons of silliness thrown in. I know each tour/guide can vary, but we went all over the park solving clues and moving to the next. We skipped the line on Buzz and then found a fun character friend who escorted us to another attraction. At the end, we had a special M&G with said character in a rather private area. As long as you(adults) get into your childlike realm, you'll have a blast with your children!

Idk if you have completely writte off HS but if you havn't at 6 she might still like Sophia & Doc... Not to mention Fantasmic would be beyond amazing. If you research Characterpalooza times using Kenny The Pirate you can meet some characters usually a princess or two.

She has not been away from both her parents for this long that I can recall. Her dad is regularly gone on trips for work so she is used to him being gone. I'm not too concerned with her being homesick because she spends a lot of time and overnights with my mom and she has done overnights with me before. She is a pretty independent child.

Thanks for all the suggestions. She says she wants to ride all the roller coasters but we will see how that goes. My mom does not do roller coasters so I probably won't take my niece on too many of them because I don't want to leave my mom alone for that long. I'm hoping to take her on 7dmt and she says she wants to go on space mountain so maybe that one but I'm not sure. I know if she likes 7dmt she will probably Big Thunder Mountain but I find them to be so similar that with limiting the time away from my mom will mean we will likely skip that one.

I'm thinking for this trip I'll just stick with BBB, probably add on the Halloween Party for one night and maybe upgrade the room to something special depending on how my finances are. I'd love to be able to book one of the royal rooms at POR. I'm hopeful free dining will come out because that will help save us some money but I know that free dining sometimes doesn't include POR and doesn't include the LM rooms at AOA, which is the other option I thought about for her if my budget doesn't stretch all the way to royal rooms at POR.

I have written off HS unless we get park hoppers. I just think at her age two days at MK so she can re-ride some of her favorite rides and see more of the characters is a better option at this point. If we get park hoppers then I could see us maybe squeezing in a half day at HS after AK or something.

I know I'm not alone when I say I don't like how they do the girls' hair at BBB. When we brought our gdg7 to WDW we bought her a Belle dress at the Disney store on sale, bought a bow online (from a place called Magical Ribbons), & we did her hair & nails in the hotel room. Then we had dinner reservations at beasts castle. It was so fun!!! Most of the cast members bowed for her & called her princess.

I'm not the hugest fan of BBB but my other niece did it when she was younger and loved it. The niece we are taking this time loves to get her hair done and be all girly so I know she will have a blast and since this will likely be the only time that she will be at WDW when she is of age to do BBB, I'm willing to spend the money for her to try it.

You're a great auntie!!!!
