We will be leaving for FL / Disney in just over a week (spending first 4 days outside of Disney)! My daughter will be missing some school and her teachers have given her some homework to do while we are away.

Her math teacher has asked her to figure out if the dining plan was worth the expense (for us). I will add her findings here in case anyone is interested in seeing the results of our trip:

We are 3 Disney adults (2 parents and DD13). The cost of the DxDDP for 6 nights, including tax is $1920.24

Breakfasts

Captains Grill - $
Boma - $
Chef Mickeys - $
Garden Grill - $
Crystal Palace - $
Cape May - $

Lunches

Beaches & Cream - $
Tusker House - $
Tony's - $

Dinner

Teppan Edo - $
California Grill - $
San Angel Inn - $
Hollywood & Vine - $
Yachtsman Steakhouse - $

2 extra credits ea.

??? - $
??? - $

Refillable Mugs - $53.97 (tax?)

36 Snack Credits - $

We are returning from our trip 04/03 and she will fill this in!

I totally understand all of the variables, not ordering as much if we werent on the plan, going to different places if we werent on the plan etc.... But this is her assignment and she is doing it comparing our exact plan.

As a math teacher - I LOVE this assignment! (I make my kids do this every time we go!)

if you are a dvc member or annual pass member have her figure them discounts also. Like at boma it's 45.80 I believe the cost is but with a 10 percent discount the price will be 41.22

I know you will be making money it's easy on the deluxe dining plan to make money. If you will buy everything you will get on the deluxe dining plan.

The deluxe dining plan is, IMHO, priced by Disney with the expectation that people will buy it and then not actually take advantage of everything it offers. That's how they plan to come out ahead. Sort of like stores offering mail-in rebates with the expectation that many people will never bother to mail them in. If you will actually be taking advantage of the items offered on the plan, you can definitely come out ahead. But if you're going to wind up finding out it's too much food and leaving many credits unused, obviously that is a different matter.

We will soon find out! Ive been on the deluxe a few times before, slightly longer vacations, and have left credits behind. This trip we are planning 2 meals per day, though there is one day I have 3 scheduled because I needed VIP viewing at a show (my nieces will be dancing). We probably wont get an app or dessert, or maybe just those 2 without an entree! We'll have no problems using the snack credits to bring home treats from our trip! Ive never done the math, but always enjoyed the convenience. I guess I am now forced to face reality! Im curious.
