Hi :)

We're just planning our last minute trip.......our 1st time to WDW, and this Christmas!

I am wondering if you can fit one of those rollaway cots/beds in the rooms at the Poly?

Thanks,
Andrea

For reasons including but not limited to fire codes, Disney is fairly strict about their occupancy and will not let you put more than four people (plus one child under three in a crib) in a regular hotel room (at the Polynesian or any of the others), regardless of whether or not a cot/roll-away would theoretically fit.

If you are looking to sleep 6, you will either need multiple rooms, an All-Star Family Suite, a 2-bedroom villa at any of the Disney Deluxe Villas resorts, or a cabin at Fort Wilderness.

Haha one night we fit 6 in 1 at port orleans--- We just did'nt register two people until the next day.....

Actually, there is a 5 person limit on regular hotel rooms (two in each bed plus a rollaway or foldout). Many of the Poly rooms are older rooms, which means LARGE compared to others. We walked into ours and were STUNNED at the space! It had two queen beds and a foldout couch. Would fit 5 easily with room to spare. I would be surprised if there was a larger allowance at that resort, but I can't speak with any authority. Call them and ask!

I see this is your first post and unfortunately you may have hit a "hot button" topic on the boards.

We are also a family of 6. If one of your party is under the age of 3 (I think - someone more knowledgable than I am will come along and correct me if I'm wrong) then you CAN fit six into a room at the Poly within Disney guidelines. There is plenty of space for a baby cot in the room. If everyone is over that age it really is only 5 to a room. The rooms are fairly spacious but IMHO I think you would be more comfortable in two connecting rooms.

Suites are available at the Poly (and the other deluxe resorts as well) that accommodate more than 5 and they are lovely but pricey. Outside of two rooms, some terrific and slightly more budget friendly options are those mentioned by Kmango. In addition, deluxe rooms are available at the BWI and WL that accommodate 6 and Coronado Springs has suites that are designed for 6 guests too. Good luck!:wizard:

So which person or persons (depending on what part of POR you were in) would you have sacrificed if there had been a fire or any other type of emergency? Disney cannot help people they are unaware of being in the room.

OP--Doing what this poster did is a bad idea! For the reason I mentioned above, and others. People not registered cannot use Disney's Magical Express, and they cannot take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours at the parks. And at some resorts, they would not be able to use the pool. The Poly is one of them, due to the themeing and small size of the pool. Not to mention if you are caught, Disney will demand that you either get another room, or leave.

If one of your children is under the age of 3, you will fit in one room at the Poly. If not, you need to start looking at the other options.

Not true. You can have 5 at the Poly.

First of all, Welcome to the DIS. As someone else mentioned you have asked a "Hot Button" question for your first question and you will get some very strong answers.
The official policy is that the Deluxe rooms at the Poly sleep 5 plus one additional child under 3 in a Pack 'n Play crib. They will not bring in a roll away bed for a 6th person.
As mentioned be Maxismom there are many benefits that an unregistered guest could not use, which would put a damper on the entire group, I would imagine.
Could you do it and get away with it? Probably.
Should you do it? No. Primarily for the safety reasons mentioned above.

I wonder if it really is a fire code issue. It's too bad Disney isn't more family friendly ($$$$) towards us bigger families with small kids.

Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk Inn and Port Orleans Riverside all have rooms that accomodate 5 plus a child under 3 in a crib.

Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Port Orleans French Quarter, Coronado Springs, Caribbean Beach, All-Star Movies, Music, Sports and Pop Century all have rooms that accomodate 4 plus a child under 3 in a crib.

Cabins at Ft. Wilderness and All-Star Music Family Suites accomodate 6 plus a child under 3 in a crib.

2-Bedroom Villas - 8 plus a child under 3 in a crib
1-Bedroom Villas - 4 plus a child under 3 in a crib
Studios - 4 plus a child under 3 in a crib

Suites Vary

Good Luck!

My friend has a reservation for 5 at the Poly Castle View for this November. The Mom, Dad, 3 children...12, 10, 6. No problem.

The fact is it doesn't matter how many people you want or think you can cram into a room. The rules are rules when it comes to occupancy issues( not suggested guidelines)they are there for the safety of the guests as well as to cover liability issues.Disney says it is due to firecode reasons. So accept it and move on.Those who choose to circumvent the rules do it at their own risk. Before you start flaming me, I often travel with extended family, and some of them have larger families, so I know how unfair and expensive it is for larger families, and I believe Disney does need to address that. But disney says it is a firecode issue, and if so than it is far better to be safe than sorry.Accidents and tragedies happen everywhere...even at Disney.

Disney does have accomdations for larger families. The have the family suites at ASMusic, the cabins at Ft Wilderness, the one, two and 3 bdrm villa's at the DVC resorts.
I have a large family, there are 6 of us, and we have never had a problem getting a room that would hold all of us.

Don't forget -- Disney owns and runs Reedy Creek Improvement District, which determines the fire codes! In other words, Disney determines what the fire codes are for its rooms.

That's why you can have five in a DVC one-bedroom ordinarily limited to four occupants, if you are a DVC member or renting points.

That's why some rooms at Port Orleans Riverside can have 5 even though they are exactly the same size and building configuration as other places where you can only have four!

Having said that, Disney owns the rooms, so Disney can make the rules.

If you are looking for a more budget option, try the All Star Music Suites. They have 2 bathrooms as well, which is handy for larger groups. I personally love the villa resorts 2 BR units because they have 2 bathrooms and a kitchen and are very spacious. To save some money with those consider getting an AP, only one member in the party needs to have it to get the room discount. Usually the discount more than pays for the pass and there are other discounts on dining and entertainment with it. I would not try and cram extra people in a room, for safety and especially for comfort sake. If you really want to stay at the Poly, get connecting rooms. You will be happier I think. The AP discount would only be good for one of the rooms unless you get two APs and put the passholders one to each room. Good luck.

or get 2 rooms at any of the values -= Pop, As sp, asmu, asmo.

2 rooms will sleep 8 and be cheaper than one room at the Polyn.
