And apparently no sign of relief. DD started a fever last Tuesday. On Saturday they diagnosed her with strep. (Before that the dr. said it was just a virus.) They don't want to see her again until at least Wednesday. My sister's wedding is Saturday, so DD really needs to get well soon! Now my throat is a little scratchy & I have a very low grade temp. If it rises at all, I guess I'll have my turn at the drs. office tomorrow. This may be the longest fall/winter ever!

I don't understand why they don't want to see her until Wed. Poor baby has had a fever fo so long the antibiotic should be helping. I would call tomorrow and tell them I need to bring her in today. Poor baby I hope she feels better soon and I hope you get better too

BTW my baby was sick and I brought her to the dr and they told me it was just a cold. I knew it wasn;t because she was so sick and had a fever. Well all of the sudden her temp got to 104 degrees after a check, blood test and chest xrays she had an ear infection and pnemonia. So you are her mom and you know here better than anyone else so you are her advocate

I'm not a doctor, but 6 days is a long time to maintain a temp. IMHO I would question if she has H1N1 flu as it presents with "cold" symptoms which sounds like what she has.

On Wed. she was given the flu test and strep test. She tested negative on both.

On Sat. she was again given both tests. The strep showed positive.

Supposedly, if you let strep go for a few days (which we did, since the first test was negative & just showed a virus), it takes longer for the antibiotic to work.

She also has a major cough, says her teeth hurt ( maybe her throat & she's just confused:confused3), and her temp goes up and down. She doesn't eat more than 20 bites of food a day (and she's normally a very good eater). This is extremely frustrating!

Thanks for listening to me whine. I think I'm stressed not only for my daughter, but also b/c I want her well for the wedding. Plus, my grandpa has hospice seeing him now. His goal is to live through the wedding. I think it will be shortly after that when he passes away. I'd love for us to spend time with him next weekend, but we can't do that if either of us are sick.

Maybe it hasn't kicked in yet? Honestly, there's really nothing else the office can do. My kids have run fevers with strep for as long as 5 days before I finally brought them in and had the strep test done. I think you would have to finish this current antibiotic before trying another? If it's the flu, nothing to be done about it.

If she is saying her teeth hurt more than likely it is her sinuses. I know it sounds wierd but I have awful sinuses and my teeth kill when they are infected.

I am so sorry about your grandfather. My grandparents both had hospice in my house towards the end and it is tough to watch. Good luck!!

I agree with PP. When my teeth hurt(jaw area), I know I am getting sick. I am just now getting over laryngitis and sinusitis. Do you have a nurse line that you may call? I know our hospital has one so they can avoid unnecessary ER visits. They can give advice. I am wishing your DD gets well soon!

Please be very careful with strep. It can be very dangerous. My dd had a bad case of strep 2 years ago and it led to the step bacteria attacking part of her brain and causing her to have psychotic like behaviors, tics etc. It caused a reaction called PANDAS and was a horrible experience that I would not wish on anyone.
I will pray for your family's quick recovery.

Have to agree with this.

Don't worry about not eating BUT flood her with fluids! Best thing for a fever. Popsicles are a great source of fluid & feel good on sore throats.

Fever is the bodies way of fighting and killing germs and shouldn't automatically be sent packing. Kids aren't adults they can function pretty well with a fever. Unless it goes up high 103 or so or she gets very sluggish I'd let the medicine work and the body with it's fever fight it and just give it lots of support with fluids and rest.

If her teeth hurt, it might be a sinus infection. When I get sinus infections, my teeth hurt too. My dd just got over being sick with fever at 105 for 6 days. I feel your pain. I hope she's feeling better soon!

I agree with the sinus infection thing. I get them ALL the time, and they make my teeth hurt really bad too.

The thing is, those need to be treated with antibiotics too, but the one they are using for her strep MIGHT NOT WORK on the sinus infection bacteria.

I'd call the doctor and try to have her seen again today, if possible. They can very easily check for sinus infection and possibly change her antibiotic.

If she has been on antibiotics since Saturday and STILL has a fever, that's not okay. Within 48-72 hours, the fever should be gone. If you read the liner that came with your antibiotic, it should say something to the effect of "if fever persists longer than 3 days, contact your physician, as this could be a sign of a new infection."

So far today, there has been no fever present. She's also asking what's for lunch & dinner and seems to have a little bit of an appetite. She ate 1/2 a thing of yogurt and almost an entire apple.
