...an eye infection, which I hear are very contageous, which means we should all have it by day minus two! he also has a cold and is being miserable, which means we'll all have a cold as we step on the plane! and he also has a "undefined" rash on his back...no idea if it's contageous! We stopped at the clinic on way home from cottage today as I wanted to get something started on him asap, so we walked away with eye drops (it takes two of us to hold him down!) and a cream for rash. Of course, he has been healthy as a horse all year! I just took a multivitamin, but feel the sniffles coming on! Oh well, we'll be in Disney!!!!
PS. Just really wanted to say thanks to everyone on the board for, once again, providing sound, informative and often very entertaining advice for my trips. I'll let you all know how the trip goes when we get back on 16th. :smooth:

Oh yes, the sick kid before the trip deal. We had that times two has year. Both my kids had chicken pox before the trip. dd was well over them when ds got them. ds was fine but the trip, but all his vacation photos are faded spots! 6 days is plenty of time of kids to get better. They do better than us! GOOD LUCK! S

I'd try to look at it this way:

1) Kids heal quickly. Six days is like six weeks for you and me.

2) Better he gets sick here, rather than there.

3) Better he's sick now, rather than in the middle of the vacation.

My bet? You'll be fine.:) :) :)

LOL Jo-Anne!:D We've been there and back many times! Fear not though you still have 6 days in which to get everyone in better health!

I picked up an eye infection a couple of years ago in WDW and had to go to a clinic in Lake Beauna Vista and the Dr. there said I was the 10th person that day with the same problem. That visit ended up costing me $150.00 CND ($50.00 alone for the drops!): (I was then reimbursed by my "out of province medical insurance). :)

Hang in there and I bet you'll all be "fit as a fiddle" for your trip!

Have a fantastic time!:sunny:  :sunny:

Take an aresenal of medication: cough/cold, tylenol/etc. eye/ear drops.

Have a decongestant on hand for that stuffy nose and head.
(Triaminic etc.)

Have you ever tried those cough drops on a sucker? They are the best and calm them and make the child feel special as the siblings who are well can't have them! Everyone starts faking being sick in order to have one! LOL.

Good luck!

Joanne,

I see it's been a few days since the eye infection started. I hope that it has cleared up. Going to WDW with a sick child isn't as much fun but it's still better than being at home. The year my son was 3 and 1/2 he had the chicken pox while we were away. There had been four sets of cases (exactly two weeks apart every time) at his daycare in the months preceeding our trip. I thought for sure he must have been immuned. But, no, the Friday before we left his daycare teacher told me that he wasn't really himself that day. We left that night and drove to Sydney, Ohio. The next morning I took off his jammy top and there were three spots. They just multiplied each day until he was absolutely covered. He still had a good time but was disappointed that he couldn't swim in the Duck Pond.

I looked at it this way. At least I didn't have to take time off of work to take care of him as I was already on holidays.

Hope this message finds your whole family healthy and ready for a great vacation!!

Well it's Thursday, and DS doesn't have "gunk" coming out of his eyes now, and the cold seems to have dried up for the most part, and the rash is slowly disappearing. I have booked an appointment with his doctor for tomorrow to get a further check-up just to be sure. However, I think his terrible twos are kicking in at 2.9 years old! I'm hoping the magic of Disney will charm him into the sweet little gentleman that I knew last month!!!
Susanna - where are you staying...might see you down there! We're taking AC on Sunday for a week and staying at BWV and Royal Pacific at Universal!!

I can sympathize with you about the eyedrops. My daughter had red itchy eyes and stuffy nose so I took her to the clinic and found that it is most likely allergies (she didn't have any gunk in her eyes) So the doctor gave me eyedrops. She is 4 and as soon as she hears eye drops she runs away. So my husband and I are in the same boat having to hold her down. The only thing about allergies is that I read on the internet that ragweed is around until November. Poor little girl. Actually my husband just took her to emergency because she was having trouble breathing. I hate when kids get sick, I always feel so helpless and want to do anything to make them feel better. Hopefully she is okay and it is my overactive imagination about her breathing because I also read about allergies and asthma.
