6 days out and may have to cancel

Mom suffered a second stroke and all hope for a quality of life is gone. We will remove the breathing tube tomorrow and then wait.

I tried to contact Disney but had three waits of 15-20 minutes and did not get to talk to anyone just to get some direction from them.

I am so sorry to hear the update- keeping you and your family in my thoughts!

I'm so sorry to hear the update. Your family is in my prayers. Disney is great about moving your trip in situations like this. I hope you will be able to move your trip to a time where you all can enjoy it.

So sorry for what you are going through.

I recently lost my mom after a difficult bout with illness. As we watched her suffer, DH and I were uncertain whether we should take our trip, but my sibs encouraged me to go. It turned out that my mom passed overnight the night before we left.

It was a little different than our usual trips, much more "go with the flow". We spent a lot of time at the pool, had massages, had wonderful meals and really relaxed. It helped me begin to heal from the pain and stress of seeing my mom in so much pain. Still, there were times I found myself crying for no apparent reason, but it helped me to be in WDW. Of course, now I am at home and beginning to deal with life without my mom. It is not easy.

I think everyone grieves differently and different families would feel differently.....but for me and my family, it worked for me to take the trip.

Sorry, I don't have any info for you about Disneys customer support or canceling. Just wanted to wish you the best and share my story. All the best to you and your family at this awful time.

We are scheduled to arrive next Saturday but today my mom had a severe stroke so the next 24 hours are critical. Please know that I am NOT placing money or Disney over my mom but we did not purchase travel insurance, so just need advice

We booked through Disney, so if I find it necessary to cancel what options does Disney give us? I would expect some cancellation or change fee and changes in room rates, but if we found it necessary to cancel for example on Thursday would we lose everything?

Our flight is booked through Southwest so I understand you can change those without too much of a hassle

My dad and brother both say for us to continue to make plans to go, but would like some advice in case we do need to make changes.

Definitely call Disney and tell them about it and I'm sure they will understand and I would go ahead and change it anyways just in case something changes with your mom. God for bid you go and something happens while there you can always go another time you can't replace saying goodbye if something happens. Good luck and hope she recovers fully.

I am so SO sorry hun. My mom suffered a stroke at one point in her illness. I lost her in May to the cancer. If you need someone removed from the situation to talk to, I am here.

As for the Disney aspect here. I would postpone for the time being if there is some time in the next year when you think you can go. I would not cancel right now. It is an emotional time and I wouldn't want you and your family to have any regrets later on.

My thoughts are with you and yours.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. We had the same thing happen with with my father-in-law, only it wasn't before a vacation but a week before Christmas. So I know how hard this can be. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. If Disney can't help with cancelling your vacation then as PP's have said maybe rescheduling maybe a good thing for your family.

I've spoken with a very understanding CM who suggested I contact them on Thursday to see how things stand. If I need to cancel I will get a refund but I would imagine we would suggest reschedule for later this year. She said there may be a higher rate for rooms which of course I understand.

No one can predict these things but I don't think my mom will last much longer when the breathing tube has been removed. But she has always had a strong will even though we believe that will has already gone.

My brother, dad and I have accepted what is to come and have a peace that mom is now free of pain, but it still seems like a really bad dream.

Disney is so understanding. My dad had been very ill and two days before we were to leave for WDW my mom called and said it would be any day now. I called Disney and told them and they were so great. They cancelled my reservation no problem, no cancellation fee, refunded all my money (room only reservation) and told me they were so sorry. (they also noted that this was my 26th trip in the past 10 years so they knew I would be back). Two days later, the day were were to leave, he did pass away. And Disney was right because we rebooked four months later.

I am so sorry to hear of your situation and my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Thank you all for your kind thought and prayers. This seems to be shaping to one of the worst weeks. As I write this I am in the ER with my DW who appears to have either gall stones or a gall bladder attack so I will not be able to be with my family later this morning. Ready to get past all of this!

I am so sorry, I hope your wife is better quickly and that you can get to your mom soon.

I am so sorry about your mom. :grouphug: I hope she passes peacefully and painlessly. I am just so sorry.

And I hope your DW heals fast as well. Sending you prayers and pixie dust.

Doc just said it is appendicitis, so surgery later today and maybe home tomorrow.

If you are familiar with the Old Testament, I never knew I was related to Job!!

I'm so sorry for all you are going through - when it rains, it really pours. Hope your wife gets through surgery easily and you are able to be by your Mom's side as she passes.

I am so very, very sorry for your family. Many prayers that your wife heals quickly and your family finds peace.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! Thank goodness it is only appendicitis for your wife- that is an easy fix! So sorry about your mom. It is nice to hear that Disney is being so accomodating. Another thing we love about Disney!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is dropped on you at once. I pray Brighter skies are headed your way.

Hope your family finds peace & comfort in the hours & days ahead. As for your wife, surgery one day & home the next is a positive one, that means it is the laproscopic kind?? Her recovery should be quicker than the traditional. My heart goes out to you and the stress & concern you are dealing with.
Yes, I am familiar with Job. Keep in mind how his story ends - there's hope where there is faith.
