6/13/2009 Western on Magic- Our Cruise Chat Continues!

Well after my Sat morning post I started running a fever and my swelling under my neck became hot, and I couldn't swallow so I had DH take me straight to the medical center - Level 1 teaching hospital (Memorial Hermann) with all the services. Was a 40 mile drive but def worth it. They had ENT, oral surgery, ER residents all see me. Had a $10,000 work up I'm sure, got CT scans, they broke out the big guns for antibiotics (vancomycin and clindamycin IV) and high doses of IV decadron. Had 3 fiberoptic nasal intubations to view what was going on (2 yesterday evening and one this am). They were considering intubating me but after the decadron I had major relief and could start swallowing and stop drooling. I am feeling 100% better and going to see an endodontist tomorrow to get the tooth taken care of (they feel that was the source of the infection). Oral surgery was determined to take it out in the hospital but DH was insistent that since it was a salvagable tooth to keep it. I'm only mentioning alot of medical stuff since we have so many medical types in our group. :goodvibes So I just got home a little while ago and I'm going to take it easy today - have a very hoarse voice - had it since yesterday am. But now no fever, and I can eat again. Can't open my mouth up very wide though but better than before!
Just hope I can get it wide enough for the endodontist to work on. :rotfl2:
Thank you all for keeping me in your prayers! It works!!!:grouphug:

You know before my last cruise- I had lots of teeth issues too(root canal/2 teeth removed, etc.) it's a great weight loss tool.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I hope you feel better Taina!

OK- because I got up super early(5:30am):confused3 I got so much stuff done this morning!!
Magnets- done
Tshirts w/iron on transfers- done
All FE gifts- done

Maybe I need to get early more often!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Taina (BTW, do you say Tay-na or Tina),

i am glad they admitted you and you got some super drugs! My best friends DH is an Endodontist. If you were here I'd send you to him. He is AMAZING and the nicest guy ever. Feel better!

Its pronounced Ty-na. Its Finnish. My mom is from Finland - came to this country with 3 kids in 1956. My father is from Peru - he came here in the 40's. DH is Chinese - Phillipino-American. His dad came here in 1956 from Manila, Phillipines as an army doctor. So our kids are quite a blend. Ben's mom was the only parent born here in the USA.

I have to say those ER nurses were great! I so appreciate all nurses! I chatted with all of them that took care of me. Asked them how long they had worked, where they were from. I'm so glad that I worked as a nurse for so long (20 years). Almost made me consider going back into the field, but I really think I want to pursue being a health insurance agent. With all my background, I want to help people navigate what's out there, esp if they are self employed like we are. This has been a significant year so far, 2 deaths - good friend in Feb, MIL in March, this sickness, new career coming up, and the cruise!!!
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: Life is definitely an adventure!!!!:goodvibes

LOL Everytime I go out I find something. But they are bagged and tagged now- so I'm finally done.

Allow me to say THANKS :cheer2: in advance for your FE gifts!!!

I haven't figured out mine yet, went to the dollar store yesterday but nothing caught my eye. Seems like you all are super crafty ...

It is so blazin' hot here in Orlando today - mid 90's and full on humidity. For those from the "gentler" states keep this in mind for your Caribbean packing.

So, the fight du jour between myelf and DD: she REFUSES to wear a gown for formal night. Says she'll just get pizza instead. :sad2: I have two gowns for her to pick from that I have worn before or two that were given to us as hand-me-downs. DD says that mine are "ugly" (of course, though they look lovely on her) and that she would never wear something that someone else wore (despite the fact that there are dry cleaning tags on them!!!!!) I tried to explain the whole, "if you go to a restaurant you are eating off of a plate that someone ate from or if you sleep at a hotel you are sleeping on sheets that someone else once slept on." But she's being a butt (can I say that?) about this. Or 13. It's pretty much the same.

I know what you mean! My DD Kaitlyn 13 going on 30 is the same way! My MIL passed away a few months ago, and while going thru her things, she had several brand new purses and evening bags. Kaitlyn liked a few of them but she said she would never carry a dead person's purse. I put a few aside anyway and donated the rest. Same in the dress section - we have alot of resale shops around here but she says she would never wear used clothing! I used to get her things at the consignment shops all the time. At least she hunts for bargains and uses her 40% discount cards that she gets quarterly in the mail from American Eagle to use on mostly sale items, so we get some major savings there. We did find a bargain prom dress at Macy's for $14.99 and she loves it! Its short and a beautiful midnight blue. Still need shoes though. Although she has 3 black dress shoes, they're either too high or not dressy enough! I'm sending her to my husband's office this summer to work to support her clothes habit!:rotfl:

Taina,
I feel your pain with DD!!!! But not literally, of course, cuz' you are on lots of pain meds...:rotfl2::rotfl2:

A special blessing and wishes and :hug: for the mothers of teen daughters. Dear Lord, help me get through this.

Definately post some- I love pictures.

I can't wait for all of our water excursions- I got an Olympus water camera last year- it's my favorite toy for summer. I love it- it even takes video underwater!! It will be great for our pirate excursion and the dolphin one(if we go:sad2:) I was paranoid on our last cruise with my Canon rebel- so I needed something for the beach and water.:thumbsup2
