Some how I got stuck taking care of my DD class Christmas party this year. (still not sure how) Anyways, I need games to play with about 25 fifth graders. Any ideas???

I teach middle school and believe or not they still love musical chairs!

Musical chair (I never even thought about that one) would be great and I will just play Christmas music.

Sogger1 do you know where I would get any mad-libs? That would be fun.

Fire14, How would you change regular bingo into Christmas Bingo? A Christmas bingo would be great and time consuming.

Thanks for the ideas I love them. Now I need moreHelp figuring out just how to do them.

DD was in 5th last year, but their party time was so short (~30 min) it was difficult to do much. If they did a craft or played a game, they would end up taking their snacks home. At Christmas they did manage to get a few extra minutes because of the gift exchange. Instead of a game, the homeroom Mom had them make an adorable snowman ornament. She brought white (not transparent) glass balls, strips of fabric, pom-poms, tacky glue & either acrylic or glass paint in black & orange.

The strips of fabric were just enough to wrap around the ball to make a scarf - crossed in the front. The pom-poms were supposed to be ear muffs. The paint was for the eyes & a carrot nose. (Small brushes to make the nose & then either a squeeze bottle with a nozzle to dot the eyes or just acrylic & the kids made an "X" using a brush.)

They were awfully cute. A few kids made "coal" mouths & used the strip of fabric as part of the ear muffs.

If you're interested, I could see if I can find the one DD made & email a picture. (It's in her ornament box, which is in the basement.)

piratesmate,
Yes very interested. Making an ornament with a couple games would be great. The kids would have something to take home besides candy. If you don't mind would you see if you can post a picture. I would sure appreciate it. Thanks for the idea

I make the little gingerbread houses out of milk cartons and graham crackers. I've been doing it off and on with my kid's assorted classes since Kindergarten. I think for oldest DS we did it in K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd skipped 4th and 5th. At first I thought they might be tired of it but the teacher took a vote and they all wanted to do it. One kid came in pretty sick because she didn't want to miss it. They were very serious and quiet while making them, some came out really cute. It takes a lot of prep time though.

Another idea is to make teams of 2 or 3 and write the words Merry Christmas on the board (or anything winter related if you prefer) The kids then have to come up with as many words as they can using only the letters in the words you have put on the board. You can not use a letter more than once in the same word if there is only one of that letter.....fro example in Merry Christmas theree is only one 'T' so you could make the word 'mat', but not 'matter' The students have about 10-15 minutes, then see who has the most words.

Is it a Christmas party or a "winter holiday" party? Here we have to be careful not to do anything with an actual Christmas theme. Very sad. I remember enjoying those things so much when I was a kid and that sort of thing was allowed.

I am helping with my DS's 5th grade party too. I plan to take the T'was the Night Before Christmas and make my own. You could probably do the same with holiday songs. We all know the "Batman" version of Jingle Bells.

I just thought of another one. I am sure you are familiar with Captain Underpants. How about coming up with silly "christmas or holiday combinations for each letter of the alphabet? Then the kids could see what their new name is based on the first letter of their first, middle, and last names.

instead of numbers in boxes you put hoiday words or pictures. such as bells, sleigh santa, snowman, reindeer etc.
