I just picked some angel names and one is a 5th grade boy. They are only asking for toys, there were no sizes on the card. I have no idea what boys that age want, are they still playing with toys or would something electronic be better, like a personal CD player. If I get the CD player what kind of CD's should I get?

Also would a 2nd grade girl be into Barbies?

Thanks for any help.

Maybe get a smaller MP3 player (by smaller I mean a less expensive one that holds only a few hundred songs) and a download gift cert for the boy. I don't know that many 5th graders are still into CD players. If he doesn't have internet, I bet he knows someone who does and he can download music at a friends house. Since you don't know if he has a game console then you don't know if you can get games. Maybe you can get a re-sale gameboy at gamestop with a game for him. One of the discount stores sold a new gameboy advance for $49 on black friday but I am sure you can't get a sweet deal like that now.

For the girl, my 2nd grade dd is really into her american girl bitty baby. She has a few barbies and bratz but prefers ther babies. My 4th grade niece has been VERY into bratz dolls for several years now and loves them. They have the My Scene Barbies that are cool and now have the Pegasus Barbie stuff out.

I have a 5th grade boy and Legos are a good idea for that age. He also likes footballs, nerf especially, basketball, magnetix-the new in thing, board games (we are getting Apples to Apples this year). My DS doesn't use his CD player much (DD does though).

Thanks for the ideas. I'll cross the CD player off my list. I like the Legos, won't need batteries. Never would have thought about the American Girl dolls, I'll look into that.

It would have been nice if they had indicated what the child might want. I want to get them a couple of things because have no idea if this is all they'll get.

5th grade boys also like Connex. Similar concept to Legos, only narrower pieces, more variation to what they can build.

I think you are referring to K'Nex. :goodvibes
My DS loves them. I'm always stepping on the pieces all over the living room!

That's it! I never had them, but babysat a few years ago for kids that did, so I knew what they were called but not how to spell it.

I have a 5th grade boy and he isn't into music. Knex and Lego are still interesting. My son still likes Star Wars figurines as well.
