Hi all, I just did the 5 K @ DL this weekend. It was my first 5K. I walk to stay healthy. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with something called MGUS Monoclonal Gammopathy with undetermined significance. I've posted a website with a great definition for anyone interested below. It scared me so much that for the first time in my life I had an increase in my normally very low blood pressure. It began to spike to frightening numbers every time I walked into another doctor's office. Every test I took led to another very expensive test with the doctor's saying, "well, you seem just fine, but there is just a little blip on the test and we should do one more test!" The cost became ridiculously expensive - the truth is we are Disney cruisers and it was making me panic that my excursions on the Med cruise were being sucked away! So, I had to get serious about my walking. I'm a mom and self employed business person running a very busy drug education lecture series, so I tend to do everything and for everybody else first - walking came when it could be squeezed into the schedule. Several other Disney Magic cruisers got me into the half marathon weekend excitement and so I did the 5K with a fellow WISH member and cruiser. It really kept me motivated, I signed up for the Choc Walk at DL in October, the race for the cure in September Newport Beach, the Surf City 5K in Huntington Beach and waiting for the Minnie in May at WDW (just before the Panama Canal cruise.) So, I'm looking for a group to keep me going. Sign in and tell us why you need to be motivated and I think we can keep each other going. There are several 5K's coming up at WDW and it would be fun to hear where people are going, where and how they train and why. I'm trying to keep my blood pressure low and my white and red cells healthy! Can't wait to hear from you too.

milestogo - I had never heard of MGUS. Thanks for posting the link. I'm glad that you are able to work through this and hopefully, with your exercising and healthier lifestyle, beat this condition.

Congratulations on your first 5K! I heard it was really hot out there this weekend. Yikes!

Like you, I've found that signing up for events helps keep me motivated. I honestly don't believe that I would maintain the healthier lifestyle if I didn't have these congrete goals to shoot for. The events and of course, the encouragement and kudos that I get from this site really help keep me going. Unfortunately, my family is not very strong in the encouragement department so I mainly come here for my motivation.

I have several events listed in my signature that I will be participating in between now and January. I take one event at a time. I'm also following John Bingham's walk/run plan for the full marathon in January. I've never done a marathon before and just the thought of it seems so overwhelming but I'm going to give it my best shot. However, that's not until January. My first big event is in October - Nike Women's half marathon so that's what I'm concentrating on now. The weekend after that - the ToT 13K. Whew! :scared: :teeth:

Hi Susie,
Wow, you've got a lot of runs planned! That tower of terror night run looks hilarious. They need to do that one here in CA. too. I'm hoping they will announce the Minnie soon. I didn't walk today since I had a big weekend of walking and am a little sore. Also, it is 100 degrees here again. The half marathon weekend weather was horrible! It is easily 20 degrees above our normal temps.

Welcome to WISH! I'm glad you have found us.

We have a weekly thread where many will post of our training and offer encouragement there as well. You may want to step in and get to know your WISH Teammates. It will definitely make your event participation much more fun.

Hi Lily, I knew if I posted either another thread would find us here or I would eventually find you guys... Please post the thread so I can jump in. Thanks, Kelly
