I had surgery last Friday (everything is doing fine) so I couldn't run in a local Red Cross 5k this morning....but I could (and did) volunteer. It was really cool giving back to the wonderful community that I'm now a part of. It was a really sophisticated race, I was holding a stopwatch at the 1 mile mark calling out splits. The first runners passed me at about the 6:00 mark, mainly because one of "seasoned citizens" was confused about which line to start at, it was actually a 5.13k according to my friend's Garmin
It was really neat to quote the wish motto to the folks who reached the one mile mark at 20:00. They really seemed to appreciate it. After the last walker passed, I got picked up and taken back to the finish line. I stuck around to see the last person cross and cheer them on
. There were a bunch of runners still around to cheer them in. I guess the moral of the story is, go out and volunteer at a local race. It was really neat making the race a good experience for people in my area. Have a great day, everybody!!!!
