No, not at all. The road goes through a more natural area as well, with lots of trees. There are many turns, so you don't see the whole course spread out in front of you. You spend more time off the airstrip than on it.what is the course for the 5 k? I've heard you walk to the airstrip. Is the entire run on the strip?
That's pretty much what I remember from doing it this past New Year's. The map might be out of date.Oh wow. They changed it since I sweated through it the last time. It used to be starting slightly off the airstrip, go up and across the airstrip, run to and around the bike loop, then down the airstrip to the SB stop, back to the loop and around it again, and then across the airstrip and back to the start.

That's the Castaway Cay Challenge, which may be different from the regular 5k.
Yes, this map shows the route we took over New Year's.Yes, I believe the above map was the route for the CC challenge 5K.
The following is what we did on the regular CC 5k.

Is someone keeping track that you actually complete the 5K or is it on the honor system? Just wondering.
There wasn't the last time I ran it, which was two years ago, so things might have changed. Given that the prize was a plastic Mickey Head medal with a retail value of about 12 cents (think it might have changed since then), they rely on the honor system.
And yes, I know the real prize is the sense of accomplishment in finishing the run, and not the medal itself...
That would make sense, since the people doing the challenge would be sticklers that it NEEDS to be a legit 5K. The regular course is not quite a legit 5K - it's a bit shorter.
thats funny I've done the CC 5k (not the challenge) about 3 times now, what makes it funny is that I've actually done both courses in those maps, the first time we looped by the observation tower twice, and the last time was down the airstrip and around by the observation tower and back.....maybe it depends on the ship?
In July we did the one with 2 laps around the observation tower (will add that it wasn't marked which direction to take the loop and some went clockwise and some went counterclockwise). Before we started the CM told everyone it was just for fun and that no one would know if you only did one loop.
You are correct. The medal is now a rubber Castaway Cay 5K specific medal. It is no longer the "winner" Mickey Head medal.
I can't wait to get my rubber medal! Was so happy to see that they had changed if from the "Winner" Mickey head! You are correct. The medal is now a rubber Castaway Cay 5K specific medal. It is no longer the "winner" Mickey Head medal.![]()
Any pictures of the medal being given out now?
