Last minute preparations...

Curious what the prevailing preference is on driving from WDW - take 528 the whole way or take 417 around to hook up with 528? Time and distance/wise they look the same. I suppose if I take 528 from Disney I don't have to worry about missing the join to 528.

Thanks

Either one will work just fine but if its a week-day you would be better off with 417/528 traffic-wise. Don't worry about missing 528 - its well marked. :car:

We always take 417 to 528. I'm thinking that you would have to take I-4 to get to 528. We hate getting on I-4. Now you may have to pay a little more in tolls taking 417, but to us it's worth it.

This is the exact reason we take 417 - we hate I-4. Love going on 417, less traffic to deal with and less construction issues. The little bit extra in tolls far outweighs being on I-4 to get onto 528.

:confused3 Call me crazy but we always take I-4 to 528. It's only a couple of miles before you hit 528 and it is less in tolls.

FWIW I see more highway patrol on 417 too. :car:
Of course, we are local and are driving that way to get back home. Faster and cheaper are better to us.

I suppose it would actually depend upon where you are leaving from. We usually leave from the EPCOT/DTD area and 417 is a bit of a drive from there compared to I-4 being RIGHT there and past the Disney traffic back ups.

I very seldom ever see police on the 417. I would rather take the 417 and arrive stress free than take I-4 and deal with the traffic.

I am local also.

We are usually staying in the Epcot or DTD area and jump on 536 right there by Bonnet Creek, zip down to 417 and jump on the Beachline (528). As my kids would say Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezey.

The stretch of SR 417 between SR 528 and the parks is heavily patrolled by Florida State Troopers.

And this is off topic, but don't forget that Florida has a Move Over law; if you see an emergency vehicle on the shoulder, you're supposed to move over a lane or slow down to at least 20 MPH below the posted speed limit for safety.

I've seen more troopers on 528 from 417 to the port than I have on jus thte 417 portion each time we've driven to the port. But the most radar traps I've seen are on WDW property, especially near the Contemporary Hotel.

Thanks for the reminder of the Move Over Law. We've had that in DE for a couple of years now and it's just become a habit to move over, when possible and can do it safely.

While we are on the subject of safety, out of curtesty and safety for everyone when an emergency vehicle is coming up behind you move over so they can get past and if coming towards you just slow down a bit. That drives me nuts that so many people rarely do that these days.

If they are coming towards you on a 2 lane or non divided road, don't slow down, pull over.

back on topic. I hate 417. That thing is a ripoff and seems to take forever. However, I think we will use it going, coming from Tampa. Coming back, I will do 528, and maybe, if I feel cheap, bypass the airport toll plaza. ;)
