50th celebrations

Hi,

We just got back form WDW and noticed that they were not really doing anything for the 50th. I know that it is DL that is celebrating but I thought all parks were doing something. The only thing that we noticed was the castle was more decorated, they had a parade and some merchandise. Is anything in DL more focused on the celebration? We are looking into going to DL in December and we are just wondering what we should expect as far as the celebration.

There are 50th Hidden Mickeys throughout DL. All the parks got new rides from other Disney parks as part of the 50th. Mickey and Minnie are dressed in gold outfits.

You have to see the fireworks spectacular at 9:30pm behind the castle. It is amazing.

I know for annual passholders they have a lot of merchandise to purchase, but for the public check out the Emporium and the pin carts.

Oh, and you must at least get yourself some golden ears and a golden name tag!

WDW is doing alot of things for the 50th anniversary. Cinderellabration, Soarin, the stunt show at MGM. The castle is decorated. They are selling golden Mickey ears. the 50th Mickey head is everywhere.

Ya, that is what I thought too! Because after the 18 month celebration period, all those things go right? Will Soarin stay though?

Disneyland is all about celabrating the 50th. Everywhere you look you will be enveloped in it. The shops are full of stuff. They have the Retro Disneyland line of things from shirts to games to license plate frames. The fireworks show is spectacular but it rivals Wishes which I love. Last night I did something that I absolutely never, ever have done or do and that's sit and waited almost 2 hours so I could have a good seat in front of the castle to be right in the middle of the magic in front of me and over my head and it was so worth it.

While I am a huge disneyphile, and certantly love the Disney parks, cruise line and the company heritage, I find the 5oth celebration quite disappointing. Yes sure the parks and castles are decorated and there is alot of merchandise. But the fact that each WDW park got a "new" attraction, is a farce. Disney ( or its executives) is using the 50th celebration at merely a way to collect more money. Yes it is a corporation, but they lost whats important, rhe magic. Each of the "new" attractions at WDW is a copy of one already in use at another location. I believe its a cheap way of making the magic. Can anyone really name a recent attraction that has a good story, a good ride, fits into a themed land or has the lasting power of a Haunted Mansion? Most have to go back several years.
Dont get me wrong and dont flame me for this but a few decorations, some merchandise and a parade, doesn't make a celebration for an achievment such as the 5oth anniversary of Disneyland. Again, I am a huge Disney fan and go to WDW about 100 times per year( yea I live close), and am going to DL for the first time this month, but I wish more could have been done to celebrate Walts dream.

I just thought that WDW would have done something else other than what they did. The commericals say that all the parks are celebrating. However, we didn't really see much for the 50th in WDW.
