Well, I've been back for a week now and I'm just beginning to recover from the wonderful 50th birthday week I enjoyed at BWV. My DH surprised me by inviting my parents and sister to join us since they really have never been to WDW. How he kept the change from a studio to a 2BR a secret is beyond me. I knew our son was joining us, and my BIL, SIL, and family were going to be there (at OKW), but the parents were a shocker!

He also planned dinners at BOMA, Le Cellier with Candlelight Processional, and my real birthday dinner at Chef Mickey's - followed by an Illuminations Cruise. He also surprised me with sweatshirts for the entire party with Disney characters on it with my name and birthday - we were quite the hit around the parks!

The staff at BWV sent up a birthday surprise which was wonderful! Since I was also wearing my MK birthday pin all the cast members wished me a Happy Birthday whenever they saw me.

The view from our fifth floor room above Big River was magnificent, with a terrific view of the Epcot AND MK fireworks! The extra special treat was seeing the testing of the New Year's Eve fireworks at Epcot which they set off at 11:45pm one evening...I wish I could be there!!!

Everything with the rooms and housekeeping was great....the housekeepers actually wanted to see the "birthday girl" since we had put a sign on the door indicating it was my BIG 50TH Birthday!

Well, back to reality...but what an experience that I'll never forget!

I'm happy to hear that your wife enjoyed her surprise. I've planned a suprise fiftieth for my wife during the first week of march at OKW. The entire family will be joining us. I don't believe that she has any idea. The trick will be to keep my mother in law from spilling the beans.

I really like the sweatshirt idea. Did you have them made at home or were they waiting for you when you arrived? I'm planning to have the entire family show up at the pool at OKW while were enjoying lunch. I'd love to have the meeting photographed. I'd also like to have Mickey and/or Minnie their to wish her a happy birthday. Any idea who to contact?

I plan to make dinner reservations and would love to make it a memorable evening. I haven't made reservations yet. I'm looking for any suggestions.

Now that you look back, would you do anything differently?

DH says he ordered the sweatshirts from The Disney Catalog. By calling in the order instead of ordering online he was able to get the "Buy 4 or more" savings of 25%, which isn't possible online. He shipped them to his brother's house, and then his brother shipped them to OKW so they were kept a secret from me. The adult fleece sweatshirt is item #83535 if you want to look at the character options online at www.disneystore.com.

I chose Chef Mickey's for my birthday dinner since I knew we had a large party with kids and adults with different tastes and the buffet really suits everyone. I also wanted the characters!!!I know my DH made PS reservations early on (``90 days) since we had so many people, so I would call ASAP. We brought our own Disney party hats to wear.

As for Mickey or Minnie..maybe you could check with a Magical Gatherings coordinator....they might be able to set up the photo too.

Any restaurant that has a pastry chef can bake a special order cake. We have ordered the chocolate/raspberry filling cake twice now, and LOVE IT! The 14 in. cake is $54.

Don't forget decorations for the room and the door.

From MY standpoint, everything was perfect! I don't know what else my DH could have done to make it any better.
