My mom turns 50 this year, in Aug. We would like to do something special for her. Her boyfriend expressed interest in having a party for her. Is it appropiate for him to throw a party? Or, should me and my sis do it and have him contribute in some way? Should we even have a party or send her away somewhere? If you were turning 50 what would you want?
I should say that my mom looks and acts like a 20 year old, so she would love a party, but she does love to travel.
Any suggestions?

Do both! Have a party with a scavenger hunt culminating in a pair of cruise tickets:p

Get a group together & take her to Vegas. The perfect place for a party girl on her 50th!:p

P.S. I'm not 50 yet, but it never hurts to plan ahead!

I took my DH, his/our kids and their SOs, and his mom, and his 2 siblings and their immedate families, out to dinner on his 50th. Then the next month I treated us ;) to a long weekend in Bermuda as a second honeymoon/belated Bday gift :teeth:

He's 11 years older, so I wanted to set the stage for a trip when I turn 50 ;)

Maybe her BF could throw the party and then you could send her on a little trip?

If her boyfriend is willing to throw the party, I would let him and have you and your sister in helping out with the planning, food, entertainment... Maybe you and your sister can get her a plane ticket for a trip.

When I turned 50 last year, I really had no interest in a big celebration. Many of my friends are feeling the same way. The age hits different people differently. Just something to consider.

We had a small family party for my mom. That year, my mom's birthday was around Easter so we just made our yearly easter family get-together a 50th birthday part as well. I gave my mom a pearl and diamond bracelet...she loves pearls and I thought she deserved something nice for all that she has done for me. For my dad, when he turned 50, I gave him a nice watch.

...us "old'folk" just LOVE to pahteeee!!! 50 feels like 20??
Give the girl a celebration!!!!!!!!
