Hi. My DH's work has moved their convention originally set for June to Oct. That's OK with me because I'd rather take my kids out of school and not deal with the crowd. However, on the downside, I saw mentioned on these boards that some of the 50th celebration things will be ending in Sept. Is there anything still going in Oct? If I know Disney, they'll find something to celebrate, but I did want to catch the 50th.

On another note:
My husbands company has them in the DLH and he doesn't want to go through the hassle of checking out and into the Grand Californian (is that the name? Sorry, I'm normally a WDWer.) Are we going to miss a lot by not staying at the flagship hotel? I know that the GF in WDW doesn't even interest me but the decor of this one is much more to my tastes.

I love Disney and like to be fully prepared before a trip. Thanks for your help.

I don't think you'll be missing out on anything worth switching hotels for- the DLH is the original hotel for DL, and some people choose to stay there over the GC regardless of the price because they like it better. It feels very "Disney", and the grounds are beautiful. I wouldn't worry about it.

While the 50th decorations are being taken down by Oct 1, the parade and fireoworks should still be going through the end of the year.

The DLH is the original and it's very charming. It has a fantastic themed pool and my kids love it.
I love the GC, lol, and now so do my kids. It too has a great pool, but not themed, and the lobby is fantastic.

So, if your kids are small, I'd say stay at the DLH. If they're older and you don't mind spending a bit (okay, a lot ) more $ go for the GC.

The DLH is great. The GCH is spectacular. If you have water babies, the DLH pool is funner for them. If you want to enjoy a fantastic lobby, fireplace, storytelling, etc. the GCH is better.

If work is offering to pay for it, I'd opt for the GCH over the DLH.
