Has anyone done this with small children? Mine are 1 and 3. I was wondering if they "haggle" the little ones or if they tend to leave them alone. My 3-year old will not understand this and I don't want him upset. (I read the thread about the horrible experience a family and their teen son had where he didn't get his food and had his dessert dumped) It is making me nervous. I understand this is an interactive experience and that many families have a great time. Just wondering how many families have done it with toddlers and also if anyone else had a bad experience. Thanks

My kids were 4 and 2 and they didn't cross the line at all. Most of the time, they gave my husband a hard time, which the kids actually enjoyed. I will say that we didn't find the food very good though!

I have eaten at 50's PTC with our son several times (he's 4 now) and the waiters have never teased him or poked fun. Dh or I have gotten a few 'Elbows off the table!' or been told to eat our veggies but never had an issue when it comes to DS. They seem to understand that little ones won't necessarily get the joke and have always been polite and friendly.

I will note that it seems like the bigger your group, the more they interact with you. But even then the focus seems to be 'reprimanding' the adults in order to make the kids laugh ;)

We did 50s PTC last year when our kids were 7 and 2. We weren't hassled at all. There was quite a bit of banter on some of the tables but the server we had was very polite and helpful. I can remember being very tired and my 2 yr old was not in the best of moods. We had a great meal, the food was very good and I would recommend. :thumbsup2

I disagree with people who say their food is not good. We have always loved the food they have. We have eaten there several times. I have never seen a small child being picked on. It is usually a banter between a teenager or adult and the person. Last time we went, the waiter seemed to pick at our son and a teenage girl at the next table. I think they enjoyed it and, in fact, looked for the attention. It gave the others of us around something to find funny. The waiters and waitresses also picked at each other.

Thank you for the posts so far. I hope more people can chime in, but I am happy to hear that most people had an enjoyable time with their young ones. Meals are kind of chaotic with two toddlers, so I am not sure what kind of mood I will be in to joke around, but we shall see.

My DD was 4 the first time we went, and she liked it. It's one of our favorites, and we'll be back there in December. They do not tease little ones, and all the servers we've had (three different ones) have been very good at knowing how to tease in an appropriate way. Really, don't worry about it. You'll have fun!

We have been twice with young ones...Two great experiences...Service was great...Servers did not do anything to upset the kids...Kids were interested in the bacl/white TVs since that was something they never saw before...

The only two silly comments we got that I can remember was one about elbows off the table and one about DH not eating his veggies...Food was very good both times...The place is nothing fancy so the food is what it is...Standard American fare...But it was good...The vanilla milkshakes are amazing and so is the fried chicken!

This is the one place I am not really interested in going but my mom wants to try it. I hope I get the "less antics" waitress or waiter :lmao:

We just got back form the world, and one place we did enjoy was the 50's Prime Time cafe.

The food was surprisingly good, but nothing memorable.

The service was great, and our server did not 'pick' on our 6 year old son. Basically he told him that he was his long lost uncle, 3rd from the left in the family photo.

He then pointed at my 1 yo and looked at my husband and said "You never told me about this one"

We had a great time and he was a wonderful server. He went above and beyond. I think they get a feel for the kids and see how far they can go, but for the most part,

my husband was the most picked on, and he LOVED it!

I think you will enjoy it.

P.S. The place is really cool looking. My son actually thought we were in someone's kitchen.

I would say go and have a great time! :thumbsup2 DH and I took our almost 2 year old to Prime Time last year. We were also a little concerned as our son is not a good eater - well, he'll try most anything, but some days, he just doesn't have a very good appetite. So, we were a bit worried that this would be one of his non-appetite days, he wouldn't touch his food, and we wondered if our waitress might jokingly scold him (not that he would be scarred for life or anything...we just weren't sure if he would be unhappy.)

Well, we arrived, our son took two bites of his food and was finished. The waitress asked me if he didn't like it and if she should get him something else, and I told her he just wasn't hungry. She never scolded him or wagged a finger in his direction. In fact, she brought him a little ice cream anyways.

My husband - that's a different story....he got put in the corner for calling me a slowpoke because I was eating so slowly. All-in-all, we had a really great time.

I'm glad there are so many positive comments on this! We'll be there in Nov with our 1 and 3 year old. DD is pretty shy, so I don't think she'd handle being in the limelight too well, but she'll love it if Daddy gets picked on a little!

I went here for the first time as a kid and I loved it... if anything it was awkwardly hilarious because the haggle the adults. I have gone back several times. The only time I didn't enjoy it was as a teenager when they started messing with me and I wasn't old enough (although I had been there before) to get the joke.

I will be taking my husband there on our trip and he doesn't know what will happen... I can't wait!! :rotfl2:

I really think the servers pick up on what the family is up for. Our server was great. He did quite a few things with us, but really not so much with other tables that seemed less interested.
My DH loved the antics. He was waffling over what to order, our waiter told him he didn't have time for this, he'd just bring him something. Now. . . my husband could have said, no wait, I'll have X. But he didn't, he just took the meatloaf when it came.
He did "pick on" my DS9. When he was clearing the table he asked us to hand him our dishes. DS only handed his to me. Waiter said something about son clearly not clearing up enough at home. Told me to give DS back his plate and told him to follow him. Had him bus his own plate all the way back to the kitchen.
He made a point of introducing all of his tables as he seated the newcomers. We even have a photo of one other group, because we asked him to take a photo of us so he also took one of the other nearest table he was working at the time.
But, like I said, we were into it. If we had not been, probably would have had more limited antics.
For my DH it was the best meal of the trip.

We are trying 50's for the first time in February. I picked it because I think my mother would really like it and because this trip we are trying all new restaurants. I'm excited for it. I'm debating whether or not to warn my DH about the possible "antics" but I'm afraid then he won't want to go! My DDs are 2 and 6 and don't eat very much, so we'll see what happens!

While Cousin Jennifer picked on DH, DD10, DD9 and myself, DD5 was treated very nicely and called princess. DH got a hat that said Troublemaker and I don't remember what mine said? She was giving DD5 a hat and DD5 was starting to fuss a bit because she didn't want a "naughty" hat, Jennifer turned it around and showed her that her hat said Princess. Definitely a fun meal, it was our favorite the whole trip. We also liked the food.
