50's primetime or Sci-Fi ?

We ate at Prime Time this last trip (for lunch). DH had the pot roast and said it was very good.
I wanted a (sugar free) shake, so basically just went with a salad and the shake. (Large salad, BTW.) The shake was very good.
We shared an appetizer.
I warned DH some kidding around may happen. Luckily our waitress kidded everyone, but not in a loud shrilly voice. Loud anough so the room we were in could hear. But not loud anough the whole place could hear (like one waiter was doing).
She treated us like family (everyone was a cousin). She shared info (like clean plate club, if someone finsihed their meal). But wasn't embarrassing anyone. A couple blushes or giggles.
She was very professional and good. Name according to receipt: Ouida T. Ask for her! Pretty, friendly red head. :)
It wasn't a cheap lunch: $36.91 with tip.
DH enjoyed it and we will return. Although probably for lunch again, rather than dinner.

D. R. N. , I thought your post was very rational. Not everyone is into the gimmicks at 50's and those waiters and waitresses can get out of hand very easily. Lacking the talent or training for those characters, you don't know when a joke is a joke or an insult, and trying to punch right back leads to anarchy at your table. Then there's tables around you with people acting like they've been just released out a can of sardines, contributing to the downfall of the atmosphere.

Like I said before, once was plenty for me to learn about how they play there. For what they charge, you'd expect to find that environment eating among caged animals rather than in a restaurant.

It is not my style and I am never returning to the 50s Cafe.

You & your family can always take a peek inside the restaurants to observe for a minute, they don't mind. That way you could make an educated decision according to your likes.

I had the most enjoyable experience at the Prime Time. 2 grown women, childhood friends, we laughed until tears streamed down our faces. Our waitress treated us like we were teenagers. She caught me putting lipstick on & yelled across the room, "Young lady, you take that to the bathroom, nobody wants to look at that!" So I replied, "But Mom, we're going out to pick up boys now." and she yelled "Oh no you're not, you just wait till your father gets home!" My friend & I almost fell out of our chairs laughing! ;)

I war to Sci_Fi before I had kids. I remember there were old movies playing. My younger DD will be 4, and is not exposed to scary things. Are the movie clips too much for a little girl?

Actually, I never thought of that. The clips are of movies like "Creature From The Black Lagoon" and "The Blob". They seem so old fashioned & corny to adults but a little one might be frightened. There are lots of women screaming in the clips as I recall. Hmmm, what do you think?

I would have said SciFi but that's only because we never tried 50's Prime Time.... until last year. We LOVED it. The food was great, service was beyond excellent. Don't get me wrong, still like SciFi but would definitely choose 50's.
