50's Primetime Cafe - Watier/Waitress Interaction

So, I would like to eat at 50's Primetime Cafe for the comfort food and the decor BUT I have no interest in being part of the "show" with your waiter/waitress. DH would hate it! And no one can make me eat vegetables - not my parents and not my DH either (as much as he would like me to eat them so I can get some vitamins).

So, can you go and just eat or are you kind of stuck playing along? Last time I ate there was early to mid 90's so any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We almost avoided 50s Prime Time because of the act. The first waitress we had was very light on the role playing which was fine by us. So were not expecting to have so much fun the second time we went with a waiter who was very into the role playing. I would just book it and go with the flow. Well worth the trip for the peanut butter and jelly milkshake!

Usually, the waitstaff can read you well enough. If you're really worried about it, I would tell the hostess when you check in. Also, you can ask for more mashed potatoes instead of veggies.

If you really don't want to be part of it, then I would make a reservation somewhere else.

We ate lunch there in April and our server wasn't too bad about the whole act. He did call us cousin a lot. He even sat down at the table with us to chat. He was very outgoing.

He did scold me for having out my cell phone at the table. (twice!)

He joked about me only eating half my salad (the salad is too big for one person to eat) but there wasn't a whole lot of show. He was very casual about it.

If we had one that came on strong I can tell you with 100% certainty my DH would not like it one bit. But we are going back to eat lunch there again this November. The food is just very good and worth going there for.

We are adults only and would not appreciate the antics there. In my 5 times dining here, it's never been a problem. I think the only play/interaction we've had was once being told the "rules" when the waitress first came to the table "no elbows on table, eat your vegetables".

I am not into the antics either which must be apparent when we sit, so other than being called cuz (short for cousin) we were never part of the show.

I'm just the opposite.......I purposely build a pyramid with the cream/sugar/salt/pepper, both elbows on table with chin in hands waiting, etc.....the kids love it when I get into trouble.

It seems like a fun experience and if it wasn't for the menu (which isn't very appealing to me) I probably would have booked it. My mom was born in the 50s so I thought she might enjoy it, but once I told her about it she immediately said no.

DH and I are a childless couple and we adore 50's. We can really get into the "antics" with the server too. In fact, the only meh experience we had there was due to an unenthusiastic server...so they don't always go over board. However you shouldn't let it deter you. Simply inform the hostess when you check in that you and your DH would prefer a quieter less enthusiastic experience and you'll e fine.

We ate at 50's PT in April, and our waiter was very friendly and not at all over the top in antics. He was super nice, and other than making DH set the table, there was nothing outlandish. We really enjoyed our meal and experience there.

We are there last October and LOVED it. I was kind of scared of my husbands reaction to what I knew was going to go down but not him- I was sneaky- if he knew the antics tat could happen he would not have gone but surprisingly he absolutely loved it- food was great and our waiter, Richard was awesome. He gave our 16 year old a hassle of course but it was all well deserved as my son expected it and antagonized it- everyone in our kitchen area had an absolute blast. We have reservations made for lunch at the end of September and we can't wait- 54 days!
