I have a PS for 50's Prime Time, but I am somewhat nervous about it. I have read the reviews and know about the treatment by the waiters. My problem is, although my kids will probably love this, my DH would not be impressed in the least if he was made to eat, or to sing!! Do the waiters pick up on the fact that people do not want to participate, or do they expect everyone to participate in the fun? I realize this is part of the draw for this restaurant, and I am torn between my DD's desire to go, and the possibility that my DH will be miserable! Can anyone help with this decision?

from what I've heard, he better eat the green beans !!

I suppose you could mention something to the hostess when you walk in, but this is designed as an interactive dining experience, not unlike Whispering Canyon. If you're are looking for something where the servers are in the background, I'd maybe think about the Brown Derby.

Gook luck and hae fun wherever you eat !!!! :cool1:

When we were there in '02, we didn't have any problem. Our waiter was acting like Jerry Lewis in those movies with Dean Martin. Funny but not pushy in any way. I thought the food was just fine. We really enjoyed our experience.

Word of caution, each of the 3 or 4 times we have eaten at the Prime Time Cafe, my DH has been the one at our table (sometimes the one in the room) targeted by the servers. The kids always think its hilarious, and maybe they figure it is safer to tease an adult than a child who might take it the wrong way. My DH is a very tall, fairly conspicuous guy anyway and fortunately a bit of public humiliation, particularly among strangers, doesn't bother him, but the servers don't really ask before they start in.

We had 7 in our group. We were hot, we were tired and we were hungry.

Despite a PS, we had to wait forever. Then, our server turned out to be a woman who is very popular with alot of folks, but irritated the bejesus out of us. We felt that for the quality of food and service we got, we had to spend WAY too much money.

I guess I'm trying to say that you have to be in a certain frame of mind to enjoy the experience. We couldn't get there.

Thanks for the replies everyone........just wanted to say a special hello to Butch :wave2: .......Bama native myself!! Transplanted to Tulsa a couple years ago........I miss seeing the Tide on TV!! :sad1:

We have eaten there twice, and found that both times our waitress was quick to pick up on who was interested and who wasn't. The last time we went, we were tired and hot and hungry, and they didn't bother us at all - they were having a great time picking on the family near us, so we were entertained by that, but we weren't picked on much at all. Just the usual 'no elbows on the table' bit.

The food there has been great both times, with HUGE portions, so we went the second time for the food, not the atmosphere really. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you do, you can always mention it to your hostess at checkin, and they can pass on word to your waiter/waitress.

A little different advice, but here goes. It is disney world, your dd want s to have fun, your dh needs to suck it up and enjoy it for your daughters sake. Just my opinion. after all, what is the harm in being ribbed a little bit.

Well, Roll Tide to you! :cheer2:

I hated to sound so negative in my post. On any other day, we might have really enjoyed '50 Prime Time. But on that day, it just wasn't in the cards.

We haven't eaten there and probably won't, as my family wouldn't enjoy that type of thing. But I did just want to say to Butch what a great picture!

We've eaten there three times now. The first time was with another family with a dd the same age as our dd. Our server, Cousin Chris, picked on only my family!! I think he realized that the other family, especially the dd, wasn't too into it. We loved it and have some priceless video of it. The second time we ate there we had a woman server. she had little personality and even after telling her we needed to speed it up a bit since we were going to Fantasmic, she still maintained a snail's pace. It took nearly 2 hrs. to get out of there and barely made it to the show!! The third time, last August, was in the middle of the other experiences. Our server, Cousin Michael, according to dd, had a terrific personality. He never went over the top.

We'll be back there in June....just dd and myself.

I totally agree! Your DH should suck it up & enjoy the fun. No one is being malicious with it.

If you are not the type of people who want to be "picked on" or not in the mood for it, DONT go to the 50's Prime Time.

I mean you know what you are getting into when you make your PS there (unless you have never been there).

I just dont get people who go there, knowing what happens, and dont want to "play".

If you dont want to get into it, find somewhere else to eat.

Ate there last month, the servers definitely pick up on who wants to be publicly humiliated and who doesn't.

I agree completely. Our bad experience was the first time we ever tried the resturant. We didn't know what to expect. Now, we just don't go.

I didn't eat mine and our waitress brought them back with whipped cream on top and "told" to eat some.

We had lunch there in Jan and I wasn't feeling well, our waitress wasn't pushy or irritating. I agree they definately know who to pick on and who to leave alone. Don't skip it out of fear try it and see.

I am someone who HATES to be singled out, but for some reason chose this restaurant. The waiter said a routine 'eat your veggies' once, and that was it-- he left us alone.

We loved it. My DW is rather quiet and normally reserved, and don't you know Cousin Matt, chose her to have fun with. She made the mistake of ordering a milk shake, and when Cousin Matt brought it he had her tilt her head back, hold the glass on her forhead, as he poured from the metal container. It was a riot, and she hasn't been the same since.

Seriously, she went along, and enjoyed it, and is looking forward to going back.

We ate there Jan2004, my now 51/2 year old (then 4) still talks about it. So to me that in in of it's self is worth every penny. It is a little interactive but our waiter picked up on (quite quickly) who was ready to play. Grandma wasn't (Miss reserved) didn't respond well to the ribbing. Grandpa and 4 year old grandson did and the waiter played upon it. It was great. If I were to return to MGM (don't think we are in MGM....just not enough for my little men)..I would certainly return.
P.s. The food is good...not excellent..but you must factor in the entertainment value :cheer2:

I hope I didn't mislead anyone.....my DH would play along and wouldn't ruin the fun, but I know that this is not his "thing". This is probably just me overthinking/ overplanning (as everyone in my life keeps accusing me of doing  ). However, I am the sole planner of the trip and trying to juggle 5 personalities and 5 likes and dislikes........I am almost ready for medication! Thanks for all of the replies though, I was hoping that the waiters would pick up on the fact that he didn't really want to be involved, and it sounds like they do for the most part. If not I will try to redirect them to my DD's.......they would love it!
