I have kind of shied away from this restaurant as I probably spent the first 13 years of my life with my mom saying "Eat your beans, eat your potatoes, you won't get dessert until you eat that last carrot, etc". It wasn't fun. But I hear from everyone how much fun this restaurant is and I am wondering if we should try it this trip. I am now 50, eat my food, and am going with DD18 and her BF19 (first timer) and they are picky eaters. Is it lots of fun or is it - I almost hate to ask this - like your mom nagging you again. LOL

....and we went this past fall.

Needless to say, my opinion is different from others....we had a terrible time. They gave away our seats (group of 10) and we had to wait over an hour...wasn't very informative about the situation and then we got the waitress that was the rudest (part of the act I know...but she's lucky I was sitting behind the table)....but I wasn't in the mood for it.

I realize that this was just a terrible experience and one day, I need to give it another chance because 95% of the people that go, love it....my experience just wasn't pleasant.

Just went for the first time 2 weeks ago.

I had the fried chicken meal and I was only told once to eat all my greens. I told him, "I tried them and I just can't do it, but I did pick all the bacon out of it." He laughed and said OK. Overall it was an enjoyable dining experience.

My 'Aunt' had me take one more bite of green beans. :)

We had a fun time at 50's PT. I thought the food was OK but not terrific. I thought we might skip it this trip but we are bringing DMIL (1st timer) and we think she will get a real kick out of it.
Have fun,
Lucy

Hey deany: I feal your pain! I spend HOURS sitting at the table because I wouldn't eat my beans!
The Prime Time is so much fun! yes they do nag you a little bit but it's all in good fun and no one is too seriouse about it...although if you have siblings with you watch out because they can tell on you for not eating something specific or puting your arms on the table etc. Go, Have FUN and enjoy! :thumbsup2 The food is not bad, not GREAT...but not bad. we'll be going again this trip in October 'cause my kids love it! Helen

Maybe you could OMIT some items - we will be trying the same on 6/29 for lunch...

Golden Fried Chicken - served with Yukon gold mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and green beans $13.29 - What we will do ..... omit the gravy and for our DS omit the green beans.

Char-grilled Chicken Sandwich - spice chicken breast topped with smoked ham, Swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato on a Kaiser roll, with French fries $14.29 - What we will do ..... omit the Swiss cheese and any sauce they may put on it (mayo, mustard...)

I will report back and post if our plan to omit/modify the entree worked :goodvibes

I too spent many long nights staring at my veggies. I have major food issues and am terrified of the 50's Prime Time Cafe! Do they really not let you order dessert if you don't eat your beans? Because although this sounds like a fun place to take my parents (can anyone say Payback Time?) there is no freakin' way a green bean is going anywhere near my mouth! Heck, I don't even want my other food looking at it!!

My DD11 and I ate here last week and had a good time. Aunt Jenni was great :thumbsup2 . DD kept putting her elbows on the table after Aunt Jenni warned her not to and I told DD she was going to get sent to the corner, but she didn't believe me :confused3 , well, Aunt Jenni caught her again and guess where she ended up? She didn't get to eat her desert until I was already about half done with mine. She was a little embarrassed  , but she had a great time. She has said we must do this again on our next trip. Food was good, but not outstanding (pot roast), except for the fried herb cheese - yummy!

We ate there for the second time last Thursday and loved it. We all had the fried chicken.

I normally love green beans but gotta tell you those green beans dont look so great so I may try and order my entree without it..lol I may regret that.. Oh man I also sat at the dinner table many a night by myself staring down my brussel sprouts.YUCK!

I absolutely hate the 50s Prime Time. Its the worst TS in all of WDW.

we ate there a few years ago, cousin vinny was funny but made my DD almost choke on the green beans because he fed them to her and she hates them..almost made her cry and then he felt bad and wore the dunce cap and sat in the corner.lol, the foods not bad,but the kids really dont want to go back!

We enjoy eating there and go quite often. There are some servers who don't get into all the antics so it can be quiet. If you don't want to be harassed, then mention to the CM's at check in and they should be able to accomidate you.

I have eaten there 3 times. I have never been harrassed. The only thing they teased us about was our elbows on the table, but it wasn't rude or anything.

The portions are very large. We typically get 2 meals and split them.

I like the place and atmosphere. DH does NOT! He thinks the food (other than dessert) isn't that great and he isn't impressed by the atmosphere.

We love the place, but if the antics they have there don't suit you as fun go elsewhere. We really enjoyed the fun with the waiters and they can tell who wants to play along and who doesn't. Like I said though if be picked at by the waiters doesn't sound like fun to you, don't go...

What do you mean? Did they have a table all ready for you and tell you it was yours, and then one or more other parties were seated there instead? Or do you mean you had a PS or an ADR for ten people for a certain time and you didn't get seated until more than an hour after that? Were you told when you made the Disney-version-of-a-reservation that with a group that size you may not all be seated together? And then when you got to the restaurant you were told you could be, but maybe it took that long for a table/seating area that would accommodate your group to become available? I'm confused...

Bring one of those new 'telescoping' food containers (Gladware, maybe?) and when nobody's looking, accidentally slide your green beans into the now-expanded container :)

Went there 11 years ago on honeymoon, I was chastised for wearing hat, wife loved it. :rotfl2:

Last year, our "Aunt" hardly said anything. Food was sub-par. Wife had a steak, likes it cooked through-out. The first one was blackened, sent it back, the second was still pink in the middle. That made my wife nausseaus. :sad2:

We're skipping it this time around.

We eat there every time we go. We all absolutely love it! The servers seem to have an instinct as to who is "into it" and who isn't. The teasing is all in good fun, so if you go in with an open mind, you should have a great time.

Incidentally, you don't have to have green beans. Corn can be substituted if you hate them that much. Or you can order something that doesn't come with green beans at all. The chicken pot pie is excellent.

We were planning on eating here in November and cancelled it last weekend and scheduled Sci Fi instead. We have 2 fairly picky (one more than the other) small children. My dh and I agreed that this may not be the best place for them. For one, my ds5 will NOT eat any vegetables other than mashed potatoes - he gags just looking at a green bean or carrot. My dd2 gets her feelings hurt very easily and is too young to understand that "mom, cousin, whoever" is just playing. We were afraid both children would end up crying and it would not be a nice eating experience.

For those worried about "clean the plate or no dessert" this is afterall a restaurant -- they have to give you dessert if you want it whether you eat any or all of your food.
