Visiting WDW in September. I will be travelling with DH, DS (4) and DD (17 mos).

Which restaurant will be better for young children?

We will be making a PS for lunch.

For the young ones you would prefer Sci-Fi. The food is not very good as far as I am concerned but the kids will love the theming. I personally enjoyed the 50's Prime Time. The food is good and I enjoyed the theming . The Aunts-Uncles=Brother-Sisters interact with everyone. I had Uncle Tom and was scolded for putting my elbows on table. It is all done in fun. :wave2:

I voted for sci- fi b/c of the kid factor. I love both but the movie clips keep the young ones enthralled and let's the grown-ups eat in relaive peace.

WE HAVE DONE SCI-FI AND HAD PS. WHEN WE ARRIVED OUR HOST SAT US IN THE BACK OF A CAR WITH ANOTHER FAMILY. WHEN I LOOKED AROUND, THERE WERE ABOUT 10 OR MORE EMPTY CARS. I ASKED HIM IF WE COULD MOVE SO THAT OUR SMALL CHILDREN COULD SIT IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT I ASKED FOR THE KEYS TO THE MAJIC KINGDOM!!!!! HE WAS LESS THAN PLEASED WITH US, BUT SINCE I MADE THE PS MONTHS PRIOR, I PUSHED THE ISSUE WITH HIM. EVENTUALLY HE MOVED US AND WE HAD A VERY NICE WAITRESS. MY KIDS LOVED THE GLOW IN THE DARK ICE CUBES AND WE STILL HAVE THEM AND IN WORKING CONDITION 3 YRS LATER! JUST FOR A CHANGE WE ARE DOING 50'S THIS TIME.:mickeybar

Since the meal you'll be having is lunch, I would suggest Sci-Fi over 50s Prime Time, although both are really fun restaurants. First, I think the menu at Sci-Fi (Burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes) is more suited to a lunch and the Prime Time is more suited to a dinner (pot roast, roast chicken, Mom's home cookin').

Also, I think young kids are more likely to be entertained by the cartoons and 1950's sci-fi movie previews than by the Aunt/Uncle/Cousin routine at Prime Time (although that is a lot of fun if you enter into it with the right spirit!)

And Sci-Fi is a darkened restaurant, so the glow-in-the-dark ice cubes show up better in the glass!

I have never been to 50s Prime Time. I could be wrong, but I'm not sure my little grandson would enjoy the humor. In our experience, the Sci-Fi Diner's food was pretty bad. We did enjoy the cars and movies though, so next time we go, we will have dessert only at the Sci-Fi.

We have done both. For us, that whole "interactive" wait staff thing wears thin pretty fast. The Sci-Fi is a unique experience and is always kind of a relief to go inside where it's cool and the lighting is low on hot sunny days. Stick with burgers/rings/shakes at Sci-Fi and I think you'll be happy.:earsboy:
