50's Prime Time...how is it, really?

I'm thinking about trying it this November...we'll be on a 5night/6day trip & I'd love to try a new restaurant. Opinions please...

Thanks!

We think it is absolutely wonderful, one of our very favorite WDW TS locations! :goodvibes We LOVED the food, shakes, decor, theme, and "quirks"! :lovestruc We ate there twice last trip and will do so again on our upcoming visit. DH & DS swear by the pot roast meal and PB&J shakes, I love the steak (with potatoes, not root hash) and soda with vanilla flavoring!

IMO there are no great restaurants at DHS. They say Brown Derby is a signature restaurant, though I dont see anything special at all there.

Prime Time is original..at least to us born after 1955. Fun, unique atmosphere you would probably not find in your home town/city. Food just like you would find in your hometown...nothing you think "Oh we have to come back here soon"

Sci Fi is a little to dark for me (though I havent been, but looking at pics, I would not want the darkness nor do I like sci fi movies.

Hollywood and Vine is nice if you like a buffet...

The Italian place was so-so too (I cant even remember the name, thats how impressionable it was!!)

Honestly, if you are heading out of the park after lunch, maybe before lunch would be better! If you are planning on spending more time at DHS, Prime Time would be your best choice.

I LOVE 50's Prime time!

The atmosphere is great. You really feel like you're in a kitchen from the 1950's. Every detail is so cute and it really is great.

I think the food is really really good. I always get the fried chicken which is absolutely fantastic! I could eat that stuff any day! And the milkshakes are delicious.

The service every time I went there was great. I had this one waiter in October 2006 and in August 2007, and he was hilarious. All of the waiters pick on you, and this guy was so funny because we told him we had him twice. I actually spilled my milkshake (which was pretty embarrasing already) and this waiter brought over a Little Mermaid bib and put it around my neck! haha. It was so funny.

I say definetly go to 50's! It's one of my favorite restaurants at WDW!

We are trying this for the first time this year and we are looking forward to it. We plan on asking for our server to give our kids a hard time. So hopefully, we will get some great interaction.

It's totally hit or miss. I've eaten there about 5 times over the years, and it's been all over the map. I've had absolutely wonderful, crazy silly interaction, I've had total duds- barely talking muchless interacting, and I've had somewhere inbetween.

I think I give off a very shy vibe and that they sometimes think I don't want interaction- I'm not too fond of being picked on myself, but I LOVE to watch others, especially people who play right along. One of my friends is a total ham, and when our server congratuated her for cleaning her plate, she actually stood on her chair and got the room to cheer her. lol.

We have never had a bad meal at Prime Time.
The pot roast and the smores.
More smores please. :lmao:

We absolutely love Prime Time when we went there in sept. It is a definite must do for us on our next trip in jan.

My boys (2 & 5) were well impressed as they thought it was like Happy Days!! :cool1: Theyve been watchin re-runs.

I totally agree that the pot roast is to die for:love: . I tried getting reservations for later on in our stay but had no luck:sad2:

I'm gettin hungry just thinkin about it....roll on january

My BFF LOVES 50's Prime Time. We went this past September and it was justokay. My meatloaf was awful. I took one bite & didn't touch the rest of it. Our server didn't even ask me if there was a problem and we got zero interaction that we'd heard about here on the Dis.

Beyond that everything else was good. The other food items were all good, the atmosphere was cute and my DD loved looking around at everything. The chicken potpie that the table next to me ordered looked devine... avoid the meatloaf.

We went for the first time this past November and really enjoyed it. We were prepared to be disappointed in the food, but we weren't. I had the salmon and hubby had the fried chicken. I kept nibbling the chicken until they finally took the plate away - it was that good!

...was when we weren't eating there. We were at the bar drinking rootbeer floats and mom (in her 60's) headed off to the restroom. She bumped into cousin Vinnie who snapped "Hey where you goin'?" Mom played the part beautifully and answered (in her thick Swedish accent) "What's it to you?"

Vinnie, still in character, "Where you from"
Mom "the Bronx"
Vinnie, starting to loose it, "Yeah, what part"
Mom "East"
He just lost it.

Second trip, DH, dd4 and I ate there. The food is a step above Village Inn, and our server was low key, but another server in our area was hilarious to watch.

Does anyone know if cousin Vinnie is still there? Or do they recycle that name often?

The first time I went to Prime Time with my two DD's we had fun. Our server wasn't that entertaining but I literally laughed so hard I cried watching the other servers. This last time I went with a group of 8 adults. We had a blast. We were put in a small back room and our server was highly entertaining. He kept looking through the "window" to make sure we were behaving.

We were there in Sept. 2006 for free dining. We laughed until we cried. Our waitress was wonderful!! She made sure the veggies were ate before dessert was served. My kids listened to her better than they do me. Then when we were finished.... she told us to hurry along that "our mom" said that we had better be home before the street lights came on... it was definitely our favorite restaurant!

I've eaten here about five times. Really enjoyed the first four, but the fifth was so horrible, that it will be unlikely I will ever eat here again. One of the worst parts was having ADRs and still waiting an hour and 20 minutes for a table. There was no place to sit (that crowded) that we essentially stood for over an hour while we waited. The server interaction was okay, but the food was just horrible.
