50's Prime Time for Dinner?

I love everything about 50's PTC; the food, milkshakes, the onion rings, and all the desserts. But it's worth it just to 'look' at the dessert menu.

Love 50's PT. Milkshakes are wonderful as is the smores dessert.
Do not care for Mama Melrose's at all. Thought the food was gross.

Not a chance of us returning to 50s PTC. I had the root vegetable hash and it is aweful! It is rutabagas, potatoes, carrots, etc cut into cubes and cooked to mushy. It was the most awful thing I have tried at WDW!! There were five of us and not one of us got good food. DH got the fried chicken and it was so tough it was hard to eat. DS, DD, and DDs BFF were totally unimpressed. We were on the dining plan and DS wanted two different drinks, one with the ice cube that you get to keep. I told our "aunt" that it was fine for him to have it just ring it up separately, just whatever he wanted. She stood there arguing with him for five minutes trying to get him to change his mind. Finally, he said he would just wait to eat somewhere else and get chicken fingers at a CS after we got done eating. I was soooo mad!!! Finally, she brought his two drinks, and he ordered food and we all left 90% of it on the plates since it was the awful! But the decorations are good there though! I think I would have a popcorn for dinner before I ate there again.

We love PTC and eat there every trip. My kids even enjoy it! Not a big fan of Mama Melroses at all. The service is hit and miss as is the food temps!

We LOVED 50s Prime Time! I have a full review with photos, the link is in my sig :teeth:

However I must point out, that we are from the UK - never tried Pot Roast or Smores before so have nothing to compare them by... and also we'd been in Florida about 15 or 16 days at this point so it really was a welcome change from burgers, etc...

We found the food to be great! DH had the meatloaf and loved it (I thought it was ok, I don't like ketchup on my meatloaf, but you can get it without that) I had the pot roast which was tender and tasty. The interaction was great, even if Cousin Joey used the airplane on me! LOL Overall, very decent meal and we will go back again.

The food was OK, but we did not have a good experience their. Most of this was our fault, but it was August, very hot! We had ressies for 5:30 didn't get seated till almost 6:30. It was the end of our trip and we just wanted a good old fashion home cooked meal. Well, you know the routine their. Mom's in the kitchen, your server is part of your family and you have to keep mom happy. Well, we had my DW & DK's, parents, brother, cousin and my 72 yr old grandmother....CAN ANYONE SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING??!!! :lmao: We were spent...my brother wouldn't take his hat off at the table (I'm old fashion and think he should have done it!) So right off the bat mom wouldn't serve us...NOT GOOD! It drug on too long, they could tell this wasn't going well and should have shortend the act or something. To top it off my grandmother didn't finish her beans...and they wouldn't serve us desert until she did?! She refused and they kept pressing. Finally, when our server went in the back...I look over and my grandmother empties the sugar packets...scrapes her beans into the container...and put the packets back on top!!!! We all just sat stunded...grandma just turned into a rebel...:rotfl2: Thats our experience!

I agree about MGM. I think at 50's the food is good (nothing great), but it is more traditional foods, so dont expect to get some unique dish. For example I think we had, pot roast, meatloaf, and I had a lunchmeat sandwich (we were here for the lunch menu) The food was good but noting out of the ordinary. I do love the atmosphere tough and our waitress was awsome.

I have always avoided it simply because I didn't want to deal with the Mom antics. Although I must say if I had watched grandma scrape her beans into the sugar container I would have had an accident laughing. They would have cleaning more than beans.:rotfl: :rotfl:

That said I tried it during the "complimentary dining" with DS. Figured what could I lose and he loves comfort food. We loved it ! I would actually go back with the whole family and pay to eat there. Our server was great, did not push the antics on us, had great conversations with him (and he ended up with a 40% tip between the dining plan and what I left), our food was very good and the dessert........well DS doesn't eat sweets but he would not share his brownie sundae with me ;) If nothing else I must go back for that. Appetizers, Pot Roast, Meatloaf and Brownie Sundae :cloud9:
