50s Prime Time Dilemma

Ok. I made reservations at the 50s Prime Time cafe, mainly because it's the only menu that any of us like in all of Hollywood Studios.

Unfortunately, I'm not amused by the whole acting thing done by the servers. I don't mind a little fun, but that's it. Don't tell me to do anything or eat anything or yell at me for not finishing. Yes - I'm a party pooper in this respect.

So I guess I'm asking if the servers pick up on this and just leave people alone who don't want to play?

Thanks

From what i've seen, yes the servers are pretty good at picking up on that behaviour. They wont play the part if your not comfy with it. What i would suggest is to mention this to your hostess when you checkin.

We love 50's Prime Time. As a matter of fact it is our favorite restaurant and we eat there on every trip!!

Regarding the servers, what I've found is that they are very playful but not rude. My oldest son was apprehensive about dining there because he was afraid it would be too much. But as we left he said that he had enjoyed himself and actually thought it was fun.

I agree with the PP. Just mention to your server that you want a low key dining experience and I am sure they will comply.

BTW - the food is excellent :thumbsup2

We eat there every trip and they are really good about telling when people want to play along or would rather just be left alone.

I have seen on this board that there is a bar area where you can get food, so since you would not have a normal server, you probably would avoid the "antics."

I think you should go somewhere else.

The problem with that is that there are very, very few options at the STudios. That's why it's dumb to make the restaurant with possibly the most diverse menu also be a place that amkes some guests uncomfortable/agitated. Woudl make more sense in Epcot where there are approximately 6,500 TS restaurants to choose from.

I've read the same. I think the same menu is available at the Tune In Lounge located right next to 50's PT.

Can you add a note to your reservation, explaining that you are not interested in the whole Aunt Bossy & Cousin Annoying thing?

Except for one trip we've always wanted more antics that we end up getting. There is usually only one or two servers in the entire restaurant that are the really over the top ones. We've never had one of the over the top ones, but have enjoyed watching the "show".

Honestly, the antics are not that big of a deal. The server usually will tell you to keep your elbows off the table, make sure you clean your plate, or make you say "Hi Cousins" to the table next to you, but thats about it. Some servers will get more into the antics if thats what the people want, but I've never found them to be too intrusive.

We just ate there last week and I was the one who got in trouble for not eating my green beans.

I was sitting on the end of the table, which made it easier for me to get up to be "punished." My DD was a bit concerned about me getting in trouble.

Do you have a large group going with you? If you sit in a booth where you can't get out then they won't bother you. Also, we didn't have much interaction because we have young children with us. So if you have little kids you may not get as much of the interaction as if you have older kids and teens.

We didn't find the interaction to be too much. We did have a male server so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

The place was also super busy so we didn't see much of our waiter (though not actually a good thing because he never came by to refill our drinks).

I have the oppopsite concern.
I WANT the antics, it will be my Dad's first time going, and he is quite the character that will play right along with it.. :rotfl2:

When we were there in February, our server was picking on another server, not us. It was fun to watch.

We've been there twice. The first time they hardly said anything to us, and it really wasn't too busy. The second time our server started right off the bat on my son before we even sat down to eat. We were with my in-laws and my father-in-law wasn't too happy about that, but my mother-in-law thought it was a lot of fun. She helped my son mess up on his manners. She had him blow bubbles in his straw and put his hat on. The server made my son stand in the corner. My son was actually having fun with this. The whole area of the restaurant was laughing. Of course, I was humiliated by this, but my husband told me our son was just having fun and to let him play the part. I would hope, though, if you didn't want them to do this, they would let you alone. In the end, the server sat down with my father-in-law and talked. By the way, it was a man server.

We have been twice and not had anything over the top - and I was a little disappointed. But, last time we had an 18 month old, and my brogher and two of his kids an my 7 yo DD so I think we were a bit chaotic just as we were. Just our familiy coming up - and with a little one, not sure how much they will do.

Ate there for the first time in Jan. Our server didnt do anything silly or out of the ordinary except when we sat down she asked us if we have ever been here and we said no she read us the rules about keeping out elbows off the table, cleaning our plates, something about cousins, and some other stuff I cant remember. She didnt seem any different than a regular waitress other than she told someone in our party once to keep their elbows off the table. The fried chicken and dad's brownie sundae were really great. The next time I go I think it would be fun to have a server much more into the whole theme of the restaurant but I was also worried about them yelling and telling me what to do so was happy it wasnt too over the top.

Just eat all your veggies and make note of the color of the soap if u use the bathroom and no one gets hurt...

I wouldn't really call fried chicken and meatloaf "diverse." ;)
