50's Prime Time Cafe

Unfortunately, the staff here has tended to "tone it down" because others, not even at the table they are serving, have been "put off" by the antics. So, you could want the "full monty" and are really appreciating the interaction but little Susie at the next table sees your son sent to the bathroom to wash his hands and now she's afraid she's going to be sent away too because she has no proof she washed her hands so she starts to cry and the parents are upset.

I was there last week, and our waitress was a dud. The restaurant was sedate and boring. Nobody was getting into trouble; nobody was laughing; epic fail.

We walked in ready to play. We were fresh to the waitress with our elbows resting firmly on the table. I informed the waitress that DH is a big tattletale. He never took his hat off and just glared at her like he was up for a skirmish.

Nothing.

She ignored our bad behavior and took our order.

They substituted the greens with corn on the cob, so we couldn't even start any "trouble" with that.

When we went to the bathroom, we took the long way around and looked at the other tables. Everyone seemed to be waiting for something fun to happen, only it didn't.

On top of it, both DD and I got sick after we ate the fried chicken...not sure if it was too much saturated fat for us or if the oil hadn't been recently changed in the fryer or if it was food poisoning. Either way, it was a huge disappointment.

We had a blast there 4 times before over the last 11 years. I ignored the warnings of people on Dis boards, and I wish I had listened.

There may be a couple of waiters who are still "game," but it appears that the majority have indeed "toned it down."

For me, I will skip 50's on our next trip and try somewhere else instead.

One of our best vacation memories is the video we have of my younger cousin and I singing I'm a little teapot.

We haven't been in a few years but if the fun suckers killed the vibe they should be flogged at rope drop.

Such a bummer to hear that the diner has given into the PC fun-suckers. I just might have to poke my head in there next trip to see!

Our first trip was our best visit to 50's PTC in May of 1992 and we still talk about it - one of my favorite Disney stories. Cousin Mark was upset that my mom didn't finish her plate. You have to know my mom, she is very quiet and hates attention. He got a forkful of her food went to the other side of the room, got everyone's attention, and I mean quite a bit of the restaurant, then made everyone put their arms out and act like airplanes. After he announced that Aunt Kathleen didn't finish her plate, he proceeded to fly the fork of food around the room until it landed in her mouth. Even my mom, who normally hates any attention, was laughing very hard. We keep hoping to have another visit like that, but more recent visits have paled in comparison. Wherever Cousin Mark from May 1992 is now, we still think about him fondly as an excellent CM.
