50's Prime Time Cafe ?

I have heard the schtick is pretty intense here. I'm not really into that sort of thing, but the menu looks good. I will be travelling solo in December and I wonder if they would be more likely to keep it to a minimum for a solo person, or step it up?

If you're not into the schtick. I say skip it. The food is not the draw here. I prefer the Sci-Fi ambience anyway. Although, many many disagree with that.

The last time I ate at 50's PT my husband was attempting to blow his straw wrapper in my face (haha, really funny...) and it accidentally hit the person at the next table. Our waitress saw and she yelled at him and made him go stand in the corner with his nose to the wall. When he tried to come back to the table a minute later she made him keep standing there. He was a good sport and he didn't mind, but if that happened to me I would be really embarassed, I would hate it! If you wouldn't mind this kind of stuff, I would say go, but I think they would be just as likely to do something like this to a solo traveler. They know no limits there, but it's fun!

The servers at 50's (for the most part) are pretty perceptive and can pick up on signals that you are enjoying the "show" or not. We've had servers who were totally into the schtick and others who were very laid back and put in on rather thinly. Of course, when you check-in you can ask for a laid back server. Sometimes its fun to just watch other tables get into it.

I thought I heard something about there being a lounge there. Hopefully someone else can confirm that, but if it's there, maybe you could eat in the lounge and skip the whole waiter/waitress situation altogether? HTH

yes there is tune in lounge attached to pt50's. i hasve no idea if you can order chow in lounge or not.

Yes, I believe that you can eat at the counter (it's like an old fashioned soda fountain counter) and skip the teasing. But you could also mention to the hostess that you would like a low key server, because you'd rather watch the shenanigans than take part. I think that there is no problem with requesting that. By the way, we actually really liked the food & ambiance here - aside from all of the joking. Have fun!

I took a solo trip last Dec and ate at PT. My servier was low key and I read a book while waiting for food.

Go and enjoy yourself. You can also order at the counter.

Dh and I ate there in 2003 - loved the food and got no shenanigans which was fine by us. I think they usually have the most fun with large groups or kids who want to get in on the fun. We thought the food was excellent. Best pot roast after my mom's!

We actually really enjoy the food at 50s. We always go for lunch. We've been three times. First time in 2000, our cousin served us and that's about it. In 2002, Aunt Claire was LOTS of fun and really into it. Last time, in 2005, our cousin made a few comments to us, but not much else. I was actually expecting a bit more since we were with DS, but nope.

This has always been our experience at the 50's Prime Time. My DS loves to tease the servers by holding his elbows just above the table. Other than that they can pretty much tell we would rather not get too involved in the show.
I do want to add that the food is very good and the portions large. We always have a great meal and a great time watching the show at the 50's PT.

We stopped in to avoid the rain in June 2005 (me, DD6, DS8 at the time). Decided we were hungry, but couldn't get a table. We sat at the bar (yes, it's a regular "bar") and ordered from the menu. I had the fried chicken (only about $12 and great, lots of food) and the kids had hot dogs and fries. The food was great, and it was just fine to sit there. If you're just wanting to enjoy the food, you can sit there without a reservation. It's nice to chat with folks, but you don't get the "experience" of being razzed by the servers. I'm actually going to make a reservation for dinner there in April - it sounds fun! Food was good - the sci fi food doesn't look as appetizing, but the ambiance looks fun. Enjoy.

I'm not sure if they will step it up for a solo person, but they sure did step it up for us!! Mom Mary-Ann is GREAT! I love the lime-light, but DFH just likes to blend in.... I think the waitress picked up on this because Kevin didn't finish his dinner so Mom Mary-Ann (our waitress) did the "open up for the airplane" thing and I captured it permanently with my camera. He still hears about this:

We eat there EVERY trip. I have never found the "show" to be too much. I really feel that the waitstaff reads the people at the table to tell how over the top to be. In fact, we really aren't in to it so, we have never had a waiter go crazy with us. We just like to go for the GREAT food.

This was one of our favorite places to eat. We enjoyed the "show" the staff does. That being said the food is good, not great. If you don't think you would enjoy the nonsense then you would be better off going somewhere else.

I LOVE 50's

The first trip I had no idea what to expect...I didn't do any research...But man was I surprised. We had Aunt Jenny and she was a stickler for the rules...no elbows on the table...DH had to remove his hat...she made us go wash our hands. DH cleaned his plate so she gave him a sticker for the "Clean Plate Club" I couldn't finish all of mine so I got repremanded and told that I should not have had that milkshake...no dessert for me. We had a ball!!!

The second time we had a cousin. He was not all that interactive. But the food was still good and I love the atmosphere and watching others have to put on dunce caps or stand in the corner or get the airplane
