504 plan accomodations?

My son will be entering second grade next year and is currently getting services under a 504 plan. He has weak fine motor skills, (dyspraxia) and sensory integration disorder- but is doing very well. The teacher told me to "keep in mind" any accommodations we might want to add to his plan at the next meeting. He currently uses a slant board for writing- but I can't think of anything else that may help him. His organizational skills are all over the place- so maybe a checklist for him to make sure he has the right books at home? or a second set? Does anyone have any other ideas? How long can he get services without a classification / IEP ?
Sorry for all the questions... those meetings make me nervous!

For the most part there is not age limit, though from a practical standpoint there some services that get a little more difficult to get after 3rd grade both in a 504 and IEP.

Sound like your child has some EF (executive function) issues so the supports for them should be addressed.

I assume they are giving him some level of OT for the fine motor skills issue.

Your child should have had a full evaluation done if he has a 504 so if they did not find any other concerns then just monitor your child for any new issues or challenges. If they become significant then just ask for a reevaluation.

Have them get with the teachers and see what they think might help. My daughter was recently put on the 504 and they asked each teacher what they thought would help her.

my son has dyspraxia and sid. he is entering the 8th grade in the fall. he is suppose to be transitioning to a laptop for all note taking and class/homework. this has been in his iep since 6th grade but i am going to have to have it more detailed so that he has more access to the laptop as he doesn't get to use it often. his organizational skills are also lacking so we have it in the iep that his homework agenda is to be signed by the teacher and parent daily. this way his homework is written down; if it is not, then he is not responsible for doing it that night. the para that he had this year was suppose to teach him how to cope in a classroom setting (self start, note taking, keeping up with notebooks, etc) but failed him miserably so we have to start all over with that next year. the school is trying to remove his 1/1 para but i will be fighting them tooth and nail over that one. your neuro psych (if you have one) should be able to give you suggestions for how the school can help your child.
