Hey guys. We are currently booked in a category 9 stateroom 2600 on second deck for Western Magic. If you could upgrade to an unknown room Category 6 for $500, would you?

Is the verandah worth the difference than the 3 ft porthole?

If $500 is the difference between a Cat 9 or A Cat 6 on the 7 night cruise, Go For It!!! We had the Cat 6 on the 3 night and we will be a Cat 6 for our 7 night Eastern Magic. The verandah is a great place for breakfast in morning and quiet place for a glass of wine in the evening.

It's $500 total for the two of us. I really think we may just do it. The only thing is I don't think we will know which stateroom we are in if we go to category six. Is that a big deal?

The verandah is the way to go. No need to go to deck 9 to see the ship dock or leave if you are into that. Just walk outside. Go to travelocity.com and book a "dummy" cruise I think the upgrade is 400.00 from an 8 to a 6.

I hate to be the odd man out, but I wouldn't. On our last cruise, we booked a cat 11. Hubby thought he'd surprise me and he did an upgrade to a cat 7. We then got a free upgrade to a cat 4. On our next cruise it will be a cat 10 (like we had on our first cruise). The verandahs nice, but for the extra $600 my husband spent, it would have more than paid for our airline tickets.

I understand that philosophy about where I could spend the savings and that is why I'm a bit reserved. That, and the fact that I may not know for sure which room we will be in, causes me to question the decision. I will be calling my travel agent this morning to get more details. My hubby really wants the verandah and I am very fortunate to work for an airline so the airfare is free!

Travelocity.com will show available staterooms to give you an idea where you myght be.

I've tried Travelocity and the only thing it will show for any category above 8 is GTY, which means guarantee only.

That's why I figure we may not know which room we will get.

Just left a message for my travel agent....hoping to hear back soon!

My DW and I have be lucky enough to have a verandah on all our cruises. To me it's worth the extra money. You can sit out there early in the morning drinking your coffee, late at night with a glass of wine, watching the sunrise or set, leave the dooor open and listen to the ocean at night,.....and on and on.
Yes you can still have a great cruise without 1, but if the money isn't an issue I would say to go for it.

HI all- we went on our first cruise on the 1/9 wonder- i chose a cat 6 on deck 6 room 6104(aft) I wouldn't pick any other cat. I loved the verandah- I watched the sun come up every morning -watched us pull into every port bright and early- we were on the port side and I would chose that again- great views- The fresh air was really nice- I wouldn't car how much extra it costs - I wouldn't book any other cat. we had plenty of space and even though we weren't in the room for long periods of time the verandah was my favorite thing about the room! hope this helped- i was also worried about being aft- but once on the ship i found it was very convenient- most everything we did was aft and made getting there very easy- took the stairs the whold trip- never did take the elevator! Good luck!

We have had both the Navigator's Verandah and the regular Verandah. We prefer the regular one and it is definitely worth the extra money to have your own private balcony where you can sit outside anytime of the day or night in whatever you care to have on!
It was especially nice this past December when DH and I were feeling sick (strep throat/cold symptoms) and could have room service on the verandah. Sunset as we were leaving port was just so beautiful and private!
Aft is definitely the way to go!

My sentiments exactly. I debated and hesitated and debated some more, but in the end I went for it and ended up spending at least 2-3 hours a day on the verandah. Our cruise was very full, and I like to read outdoors; it gave me a place to do that at odd hours and at peace. The only downside was that the person in the room next to me was a smoker, and I think that everytime she heard me out there, she went outside and lit up. If we moving, it was no problem, but if we were in port, I was at the mercy of the prevailing winds!
