We are planning our first trip to Disneyland and are wondering what are the dates for the 50 year celebration? Also, which resort should we stay in? Our kids love Peter Pan so I am thinking maybe DL hotel, but I am more in to newer resorts and am leaning toward GC. Any suggestions? Thanks!

We have stayed at DL and GC. I love GC, and would prefer staying there myself. However, the DL Hotel is great, and our DDs preferred it. The Neverland Pool has the pirate ship and whatnot...more themed than the Grand Californian Pool.

Sooo...it depends on if you would like to please the adult preferences (but, hey, they still LOVE the GC-it isn't as if it is a "bad" choice for kids!), or really want to go full bore for the kid-pleasing aspects. Also, the DL is MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE. The GC is a closer walk to everything, but you can take the monorail from DL...

I myself am still deciding what to do this summer, and I am leaning toward GC because it is so easy to walk to everything. But I am not yet decided either!

I realized I neglected to address the newness factor...I too can not stand older or neglected looking hotel properties. The Disneyland Hotel did not disappoint me in that area. We stayed there...almost two years ago. It was a very nice property.

Of course the Grand Californian is...better quality, but that is due not only to it's newness, but also because of the beautiful architecture and attention to detail that is apparent all over the property.

If you kids are huge Peter Pan fans I would suggest the DLHotel they wil love it!! (my son is 5 and its a HUGE Peter Pan fan!!)And the walk is just a couple of minutes and you can jump on the monorail.

The 50th Anniversary is supposed to start in the early spring if I'm not mistaken. Keep checking this board and sites like mouseplanet or laughingplace for more info.princess:

Thanks, I will check back!
Also, has anyone driven from Lake Tahoe to DL? We will be flying into Reno to visit some family and then driving to DL for 4 days. How far is it? Would we be better off taking a flight to Anaheim also?
