I was having second thoughts about the AKL Sav. view room I booked a couple of days ago for $186 per night (8/21-27). I wanted to find out what a standard room would go for. The CM I spoke to said, "you don't want to do that. That's the best view, besides, it will cost $50.00 to change your reservation". Has anyone heard of this additional? In the past, I have changed reservations with no charge. Is this a new thing?:confused3

btw, she quoted me $215 per night for a standard view. I told her that recieved a discount on the Sav. room (I did not have a code). The CM told me that there was no code available for the standard room.

Needless to say, I'm keeping my original ressie...

They won't charge you to upgrade your reservation, but they can charge you to downgrade if you are past your final payment date. So since you are nowhere near that date it seems odd that she would say that.

I would have written down the CM's name ended the call and then called back to speak to a supervisor. I think they were just trying to discourage you from making a change but they have NEVER charged a fee to make changes!

Call back.

I'm not an expert on the cancellation policies, but I'm pretty sure that the $50 fee that the CM was referring to is when you make a change after final payment on a package and within the 45 days before your arrival. They only charge you the $50 if you are making a downgrade. If you had a room only ressie, the normal cancellation is 5 days out.

BTW...$186 for a savannah view sounds like a really good deal!

This was room only. I have never booked a package so that's why I never heard of the $50 fee. Thanks for the clarification!

From Disney's terms and conditions:

For a change made 44 days or less prior to arrival or that results in a rate change, there is an additional change fee of $50 per package plus any change fees assessed by hotels or other suppliers

The rate change is where they get us on this.

It sounds like the fee is charged only when a package is changed. I was planning to change my room only ressie to a package if free dining is offered. I wonder if the fee would be charged. I hope not.

Yeah - I looked over everything I could find on the Disney site - even went 95% of the way through booking a room only to get to those terms and conditions and found nothing those about a fee like this.
