Has anyone else read this? I read it over the weekend after hearing about it on the radio. That was quite the book.

I heard they might be making a movie about this book??? I will look forward to reading the next book in this series when it comes out.

I finished last night and am reading the second book, Fifty Shades Darker. Not sure how I feel about even though I am reading the second book. I think all three books are available separately now but if you want the trilogy in one book it comes out in a few days. If the movie were true to the book I would definitely have to wait for the DVD.;)

LOVED these books and not ashamed to admit it:lovestruc
I ready movie vs HBO type show...I think the HBO show would be better...

I read the trilogy. I thought they were fine, enough so that I went ahead and bought books 2 and 3 after reading the library copy of book 1.

Less porn-ish than say Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy and better plotted than a lot of women's fiction/erotica that I see.

I did think the woman in peril plot was a bit much and you can tell she has a fanfic background because of the angst/danger magnet themes.

I will say this. I recognized some plot elements/charecter profiles that I've seen in other popular movie/fiction. But I read a lot and I could just have a larger pool of information to pull from. However the books were compelling and I did really like the charecters and was eager to follow thier story.

I was looking on the New York Times best sellers list for something to read, and that is how I came across Shades of Grey. I read the first book, and I was hooked. Now, I am the first one to admit that this was not high quality literature, but it was a fun read... and I read all 3 books. While I was reading them, though I kept thinking that they reminded me of Twilight.... and after I was finished all 3 books I Googled "Shades of Grey like Twilight." Well, I guess I was living under a rock... it turns out that these books started out as Twilight fan fiction, and they were on the Twilight fan website before being published, etc. I had no idea!

Yep, read all 3, in about 4 days time....I was hooked

I started it when it was still a FanFiction story and quit reading about 25% in, just not my thing --- but then I'm not a huge Twilight fan either.

Ohhhh, how exciting, I didn't think I could get the other books yet!

I never liked twilight as I am not into the vampire thing. The book was pretty hot, although some parts were a bit too much for me.

I still don't understand how they can make a movie of it!!! At least not one without an X rating!

Loved the series!
Can't wait for the movie. Who do you think should play Christian and Ana?

I've read all three of the books--twice LOL...I did hear Universal bought the movies rights but I am really hoping they make a Universal Studies Theme Park ride out of it LOL....

I am on book 3. I have loved them all. I was a tad apprehensive in reading the first. I love to read and get mad when I spend time reading a book that is sub-par. I was afraid 50 Shades would be a tad to pornish for me but I was wrong and I'm glad I read them. Yes, they are a tad overly romantic and cheesy at times but still a good story line, great character development and I love the Ana's "inner Godess":rotfl2:

I also loved the emails that they sent back and forth to each other and thought that was clever. The banter that Christian and Ana had was interesting, and I also liked how she changed their signatures according to what they were writing... it was just something different and funny. I also liked Ana's Inner Goddess, too!

I read the first one. The writing is laughably bad and proof once again that a person does not need talent-- just luck--to succeed in this world, because you can stuff that is just as good, for free on the internet, at erotic literature sites! The sad thing about it, though, is that teens who are readers of Twilight hear about it and, hearing it's "just like Twilight", are all clamoring to read it. It is NOT for the same audience Twilight was intended for!!

I agree, I thought the writing was almost painful to read. I agree, it's the risque subject matter that made the book popular. BTW, if you like that sort of thing, then watch the movie The Secretary with James Spader and Maggie Gylenhall (sp?), I thought it was very well done.

I read all three of them a few weeks ago. I enjoyed them. Not classic literature by any means but still an enjoyable read. :thumbsup2

I picture Christian as a better looking Christian Bale.
Ana I'm not so sure about. Jennifer Garner maybe?

I don't know - I mean there are tons of erotic fiction books out there that haven't gotten nearly the amount of attention this one has. I think sometimes stories just become popular through word of mouth and then it snowballs like heck. I keep expecting to hear that Stephanie Meyers files a lawsuit.

If anybody is interested the original fanfiction was titled Masters of the Universe. The author tried to remove most copies of it when she changed the character names and Bella became Anastasia etc and started selling it as a self-published book - but you can still find it around through a google search. It was available as an Indie Pub ebook for a long time before Random House picked it up and republished it.

I'm on book 3. It's terribly written, but it's a fun story.

I read the first Twilight book and hated it...so I guess that's weird?

I read all 3 books last weekend. I really enjoyed them - fluff, light reading, etc.

As for the movie - I guess I would like to see someone like Henry Cavill or Max Irons.

Anastasia? I picture her like Jennifer Garner, but NOT Jennifer Garner. I think they should go with an unknown actress...

I'm currently reading this and I'm also hooked.

I knew about the connection to Twilight before I started reading, so I was picturing Robert Pattinson as Christian. But I just had a thought that I think Robert Downey Jr would be great in that role! I loved him as Iron Man. He kind of has that arrogant handsomeness down pat in Iron Man.

And maybe Rachel McAdams as Ana.
