50% off gift cards

I got an email from Borders today about 50% off of gift cards. It looks like you have to go to this site:
http://www.bordersrewardsperks.com/overwhelmingoffer/index

and once enough people have checked in, more offers are unlocked. Some of these are really good offers. I guess it will all be about timing it right.

These sell out in seconds and some Rewards Members have a 5 second advantage so the chances of getting these are very slim.

I've been trying for one of these rewards for weeks! They even changed the times to make them more random so that newbies could get a chance to purchase one. Still no luck. I give up.

Border's is trying everything under the sun to stay afloat. I get coupons galore emailed to me and every time I go in the store they try and upsell me to the Border's Rewards Plus card -- even when I bought a coffee. Sadly they won't last and will eventually fold. E-readers are the way of the future and Border's didn't come out with a decent one to compete with B&N and Amazon.

Overwhelming Offers is not Borders, Borders just gives it customers a chance to *win* them. There are many ereaders on the market and Borders sells ebooks so I don't see them going under too soon.

Borders is treading on thin ice. Their stock fell below $1.00 per share for a period of time this year. Their sales numbers have been weak. Every person in line at the check-out is holding a coupon. They are hurting and trying to stay afloat. I give them 3 years max -- and that's a VERY optimistic prediction.

I hope borders doesn't go under I like them. Barnes is ok but I think they are more expensive.

Totally agree...I went in for the first time in ages a few weeks ago. I had somehow miraculously earned $5 in rewards (I think they just gave them to me). I walked around for a good 25 minutes before finally settling on stocking stuffers for my kids. I spent about $1.25 out of pocket. Everything seemed so expensive. I can get better deals on Amazon and I don't have to leave my house or pay tax.

I think they gave that to everyone that has a rewards card or gets the overwhelming offers emails. I got one, too. B&N is selling books through their Nook. You know they have to be taking a big loss on selling the Nook for $249, but they are making up for it by the e-book sales.

Just look at the new Samsung e-reader (Samsung Galaxy). It's essentially the same machine as the Nook, but costs more than twice as much. DH has a nook (early Christmas present). It's amazing! Like a mini-ipad and runs on the Andriod platform. You can play games, surf the the internet, listen to music, download movies, and the colors are fantastic! I expect Kindle to come out with something similar. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go for the Nook Color for sure. That ereader is amazing! Didn't believe it until I saw it in person -- and it will save B&N but not Borders.

I am thinking of getting the 1/2 off Home Depot cards and then getting my new oven later next year.

I don't have the time to waste to keep visiting their site to see when something becomes "unlocked". This is not the value to me of buying something online. If the offer is not available the first time I visit their site, I'm not coming back. Hope this works for someone else.---Kathy

I'm not quite sure how this thing works now. I got in on the Kmart deal, but ended up not going through with the purchase because it said something about WOW points and being credited those after you paid the full price for the gift card. It sounded like a good deal up front, but once you get into it, it sounds not so good.
