We are heading to WDW in a few weeks to celebrate DS turning 5!!!
I booked his dinner at chef mickey's several months ago. We've never been, and we are staying at SOG, so we can take the monorail over.
But looking at the pictures from T-rex, he would LOVE it! And factor in that if the birthday "fun card" is an actual gift card, it will more likely than not get spent at Once Upon A Toy, so dinner at Downtown Disney would be great.
So what do you think?
And how would a party of 5 compare price-wise at the two resturaunts?

FYI -

Birthday Fun Card:

Only valid on your birthday

You may use the Birthday Fun Card only towards the purchase of merchandise at participating merchandise owned and operated by the owners of the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. The Birthday Fun Card may not be used towards the payment of Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort room/charges or a Disney Cruise Line reservation or towards the purchase of any food and beverage items, alcohol, cigarettes, spa services and products, or personal services such as face painting, caricature drawings, hair braiding, and hair wrapping.

If you think he'd love TRex, you know your son take him. Our 5 turning 6yo loved Chef Mickey's and we will definitely do it again on our next trip.

The value of his Fun Card is under $50, the price of a one day child admission to WDW. If he chose a sweatshirt and toy item that money would disappear in a flash.

How do you take the monorail from Shades of green? I am assuming you head to the transportation center.

Personally we hated Chef Mickey's - we tried it 3 times- first time several years ago was great. Last 2 were disasters. Horrible cold food and lackluster service. Along with long waits to be seated.

We have not been to T-Rex. But would love to try it. Happy Birthday to your son.

(changed the bold above)
The price of child's admission is $67.10. we are going on his birthday. The plan is go to a park, dinner, and toy shopping. Which, $65 can go a long way, since I can already bet he'll be buying the Disney Star Wars toys, or more potatohead parts.
I'm just debating on where to have dinner. Kevin Yee on Miceage did a GREAT review on T-rex, and DS went ga-ga over the pictures when he saw them... before any trip was planned.

Also, transportation-wise, it is a quick walk over to the poly to hop on the monrail.

I think you better do both! My son is 6 and we frequent T Rex in Kansas City (the only other one I believe). We were just there yesterday in fact. It's very cool. Have you been to Rainforest Cafe? It is very similar. I do think it's a little pricey, but then you're probably paying for the atmosphere as well. BUT we ADORE Chef Mickey's! Any chance you can take him to two special dinners?!

I'd do T-Rex. I've never been there but I have been to Chef Mickey's and really, really hated dinner there. I love the place for breakfast but I didn't think I was getting my monies worth there at dinner time. I'm not a picky eater at all but was not impressed with the offerings.

Enjoy your DS's 5th birthday!!! Ours just turned 5 on the 17th!!!

I vote Chef Mickey's. What a great restaurant to see Mickey up close and personal. I've love this restaurant, and have had nothing but good experiences there. My brother was celebrating his 11th birthday during our last trip, and decided that he wanted that to be his birthday dinner. All of the characters were super fun....Donald even came over to the table when his birthday cupcake came over, took the cupcake and ran away. We got really great pictures, since all of the characters came over to take pictures with the candle lit (ok, so we lit the candle a few times:goodvibes ) We all have such great memories of that dinner, and I recommend birthday dinner there.

We've ate at both and if he's not afraid of dinosaurs, I'd go with TRex! It's amazing! Maybe you could let him Build-A-Dino before he leaves too! it's a lot of fun!

I think we are settled on T-Rex!
We broke the news to him today, told him where we are going for his birthday, and I asked him if he would rather have his birthday dinner with Mickey Mouse or at the Dinosaur resturaunt, and he shouts "DINOSUARS!!!" It was precious! Now I have to go scavenge up those stuff 4 stuff cewrtificates that came in the mail last week so we can build-a-dino!

**as a side note on the marketing of the Celebrate campaign, when we had this discussion, my DD6 - (yes, at age 6!) says "Mommy, do you know Disney world is free on your birthday? So he can go for FREE!!!!" They astound me every day!

I think you made a great choice! My son is 6 and I think he's going to be amazed at the T-Rex cafe. I can't wait to try it.

You will love T Rex! And I forgot about the make your own dinosaur. We now have two of those. Perfect for little boys. Also, they have giant drinks shaped like a dinosaur bone or the light up cups and lots of fun kid drinks to choose from. Have fun!

I think you made a great choice, especially considering his reaction when you told him! Have a great time :)
