5 year olds and magic bands...

What has been the experience with magic bands and children around age 5. I can't imagine my kids tolerating them for long. Are they easily lost? Will they be in my pocket for the most part?

In October,we were at a water park or someplace and noticed a mom with four bands on. She said her kids didn't like to wear them, so she wore them all. Her kids were younger like yours.

My kids wore them with no complaints, although they are a little older - youngest is 8. We had no issues with the bands coming undone and falling off.

My 3 year old wore her for our 3 day trip with no problems. She was actually excited to put it on each morning cause she knew it would mean going to the parks. Perhaps if you let them know they have to wear them to access the park, they will assume its necessary. I think they are comfortable and afte a while you forget you have them on, maybe they will too.

No one has to actually wear them.

If you get a coverband, they are made from what I can only describe as swimsuit fabric (not trunks, but like a bikini fabric) and are fairly cool and smooth, and make them more comfy. (and it gives another layer of protecting that they don't fall off)

But again, no one has to put them on their arms.

My daughter isn't quite 5. Her band came in her favorite color, and we even put a coat of glitter polish on it. She thought it was pretty, but wearing it just wasn't comfortable for her. She started out carrying a puppy shaped purse, using her band as the puppy's collar. After those first few days she stopped bringing the puppy purse into the parks. DH then held onto and scanned her band with his. No problem for our family over 8 days of use.

Something that makes them much more comfortable for little ones is removing the outer grey part of the band, and using the child-sized/smaller wrist band. It's a little difficult to rip out, but it is meant to come apart for smaller wrists.

That is what I did with mine, and it is far more comfortable, and it didn't have a lot of overlap bulking it up anymore under the band.

Even so, you may just end up carrying them around yourself, hehe.

I have five year old twins. They both wore the bands for a week straight over thanksgiving. And seemed to enjoy "making Mickey turn green." Apparently kids are more enthusiastic about FP+ than some adults...

I would say to keep an eye on them at the pool. They don't get knocked off easily at the parks but in a pool/waterslide environment they fall off pretty easily. (Almost lost my own this way.)

Overall though our two five year olds liked them just fine, and neither kid wears bracelets otherwise. I think they felt like it was "cool" since mom and dad and big sister were wearing them also.

My son is 4 and loved it thought it was the best thing ever. He loved opening the door to the room!

My kids were 2, 4, 6 and 8 and all wore the bands without problems. I did have to take the band from the toddler because we were told there's no need to scan them. At first I had it on my photopass plus lanyard, and then eventually just put it in the bag.

We did remove the bigger grey part. The DCL Oceaneer's Club uses the same band - but they attach like a ziptie on them so they can't be accidentally removed. None of ours "accidentally" fell off.

I had thought that 2-y.o.'s wouldn't be receiving bracelets since they didn't have any associated tix media.

My GD was upset as to being told she wouldn't receive one. I was prepared to buy her a charactar watch so she could have something 'disney' on her wrist too.

My son was almost 4 this past trip and he loved wearing his magic band. His never came off. Only problem I've run into is that I ordered him the wrong color for our upcoming trip. I ordered him a red one, but he has claimed his Nana's pink one as his own for our January trip. Not sure how that is going to work out!

One thing to watch out for. The only time my own band came off was when picking up my son, so be mindful of your band if you pick up your five year old.

My one year old wore hers two days straight! She just wanted to be like big sister (4), who also had no problem. They are honestly pretty comfortable. Though I do think a sliding safety loop would be an improvement to keep them on better.

I saw more then one mom with multiple bands on their arms. I saw one mom with 5. I was walking around with two as my 8 yr kept playing with his and i was concerned it was going to disappear. Personally i find them uncomfortable, they dont sit right on my wrist. I often just put them in my bag. I think i may be investing in some covers to see if that helps.

Each if mine wore them every day without complaint while at the parks. They loved being able to checkin at fast pass stands and unlocking the room doors for us. They were devastated that they couldn't use them to pay for things though . They are ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2.
