My 5 year old is 50" (turned 5 in July). Dh wants him to go on and thinks he can just because he is over 48".

I on the other hand don't really think he should. He's really thin and he's so young I didn't go on a coaster like that till I was about 8.

Would you let your 5 year old go on rock n roller coaster? Also, my kid is a thrill junkie. He went on TOT at 2 1/2. Everest and 3. Etc etc. LOVES roller coasters I'm just afraid this one is just to fast and it has a loop doesnt it? It would be his first of one of those.

My son was also a tall 5 year old and loves coasters like the ones at Hershey Park. However he did not like the rock and roll roller coaster. I think because it was dark and loud. He did like space mountain. Dark but not loud.....

I trust Disney. If he meets the height requirement I'd let him go.... Isn't it an over the head kind of restraint. I think you would know if he would slip out before the ride began incase you changed your mind...

My 5 yo son will be riding it this November. He says he is going to ride absolutely everything. It comes down to how your child reacts to things. My DD was hesitant to ride it when she was 7, but decided to do it and loved it. My son rode BTMR multiple times when he was 2. If your son does well with ToT and EE I think he will love RnRC. Have fun!!

I think it may be a pretty intense ride for a 5-year-old, but I think it depends on the child. My DS loves roller coasters, but didn't want to go on it when he was 7. He decided to try it when he was 9. Even then, he was apprehensive, but decided that he liked it after he tried it. However, he didn't want to go on it over and over like he did EE, so I think he was stilll a little leery of the fact that there are inversions. I have seen children your son's age on it, though,, so I think only you can judge.

My son was not ready for RR until he was 8 & he LOVES thrill rides.... even at 8 it was pretty intense for him. I would wait, you don't want him to totally freak out & it ruin the ride for him in the future :goodvibes Good luck :thumbsup2

I'm surprised a 5 year old is tall enough (I didn't get past his height until I was closer to 8 or 9, but I was always quite a bit shorter than my peers growing up), but I'd say as long as he really wants to ride it and passes the height check, it should be fine.

We're currently in Disney. My 5 year old daughter rode RNR for the first time, yesterday. She absolutely loved it. She is slender and had no problems with the restraints. She was scared before the 1st time, but as soon as she climbed out of the car she was asking to go back on it! (Since the standby time was only 5 min wait, we did!)

if he is tall enough and wants to why not? I would let him. If he doesn't like it he doesn't have to ride it again but I bet he loves it. It is a great ride and very smooth and not wild like the newer coasters at the other parks.

I bet he loves it and wants to ride it several times.

PS being thin doesn't matter at all. You are held in be centrifugal force not the harness.

No! He may get a terrible head ache! I am short just under 5 feet and love coasters.... Rocken rollacoster hurts me because I'm so short my head is between the shoulder bars and bangs back and fourth during the ride. I have been on it at least 5 times and I will never do it again! Ruined many a day at dh's because of my head being banged into those things.

Depends on your son. My 4 year old LOVES scary things and thrill rides and can ride the big rides with the best of them. My 3 year old, on the other hand, freaks out on the baby boats. I would start out with a milder ride and work your way up, if you're unsure.

I'm only 5 ft also and never got a headache on this ride. My DD is short (5'2") and she is fine and my DS was just barely tall enough and he had no problems.

I have raised 3 kids through Disney. I have twin 17 year olds that were there at age 5 and I currently have a 5 year old with a seasonal pass for us all.

It truely depends on the kid. Period.

With my twins, the girl had zero fear of anything. She loved every single thing they would let her on no matter how intense. Her twin brother was her polar opposite. Jus going into a line would make him quiver and he didn't ride any coaster till age 10.

My current 5 year old son is somewhere in between. He loves roller coasters and anything fast but is terrified of dark, creepy things. He'll ride splash mountain no problem but is scared of the Pirate ride. With our passes he is slowly coming around and getting braver. He even rode Everest last weekend. I thought he would freak but he loved it. Yet I still cant get him on that sill haunted house. What can I say...kids are wierd lol

My advice....go very, VERY slowly. Once your child gets scared, that's gonna be it for a while. Start with super mild rides first like Small World (or Mickey club house show and then Toy Story Mania if you are at HS). Work your way up to small coasters like Thunder Mountain, then maybe Splash Mountain...keep getting bigger and braver and you should be good.

if he wants to let him!! my dd rode when she was 5 and loved it! the lady in front of us in line asked how old she was and couldn't wait to tell her dh and teenage ds that a 5 yo girl wasn't afraid when they were!! :lmao:

All these 48-inch + 5-year-olds... are you folks from a race of giants or what? ;)

I wouldn't, but I hate that ride. It's one of my least favorites. I'm one that gets a headache from it and I know my DS would too. JMO though. ;)

That is what I was going to say. You have to have good neck control and keep your head back. If you lean your head forward, there's a chance you could get "boxed".

In your post you say your husband wants him to go on the coaster, but does the son want to go?

It is my parenting philosophy that it's my job to be there to catch her when she makes a mistake, not to stop her from making the mistakes (as long as it's nothing dangerous, of course).

If he wants to go, let him, don't push him or dissuade him.

BTW, my DD6 went on it when she was 5. She thought it was O.K. but likes Tower of Terror, Test Track and Kali River Rapids better,

All my kids have been on it young, sorry don't remember exact ages. The most recent was our then 6 yr old in 2010. She loves it, but my kids love the coasters and like yours had worked their way up through the others as they got taller so it was just the final milestone. You said he likes everest and if that is so I think it is fine, IMO the part that goes backward in the dark on everest is almost as intense as rockin roller coaster, if he truly likes that he will be fine on RRC.

Seriously? It must not have hurt too much if you went on it at least four more times!

As the parent of a thrill junkie let him ride if he wants to. Make sure he knows it has loops and is completly dark first! My DD was on TOT at 3 and rode it over and over. We haven't been since she was 4, 8 years ago. She was just under the height and RnRC is the biggest must do of the trip. She has been waiting 8 years!!! Just over 3 weeks!:goodvibes:cool1::banana::yay::woohoo:
